The basis of her defense no doubt. If she did one, odds are she did the rest too.
I always wondered what these guys saw in her in the first place?

Apparently in Japan, it is not socially acceptable to handle dead bodies. No autopsies leads to deaths not being treated as suspicious and therefore not linked.
Japan is a law-abiding country with a low crime-rate. No serial killers here!!
gogogo
She only pleaded guilty to avoid a death sentence. She is a cold hearted killer, she should given the same poison she used on the men or all the money she stole converted into 100 yen coins and dumped on her in one shot.

Women are born with talent of arousing fantasy in men. Men feels his life brightened up. Thus the men are tricked.
tmarie
Sadly, a product of society in terms of how many view men here. Men viewed as ATMs and a woman too lazy to get off her backside and work for a living. I feel sorry for the family and friends of these men.
Strangerland
That's correct.
That's not though. You can find serial killers in any country. Unfortunately it's part of the human condition that some people are broken, and feel they have the right to take the lives of other people.
But fortunately the huge majority of people in Japan are law abiding and there is very little crime!
tmarie
Indeed it does work both ways Reckless. It shouldn't though and two wrongs don't make a right.

Greed is the worst feat in a person. If you look up the word "greed" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of her with a caption saying "I'm greed in human form!" What a selfish old cow.....not to insult the cows, but you know what I mean.
Also, whose ever hand is that in the picture, horrible use of a peace sign.

"You can find serial killers in any country"
Well then, Google 'Japanese serial killer" and tell me what you come up with...

In the article it says she first admitted, then retracted her confession. The central issue is now surely her dementia.
Quote: As her trial began this week into the 2013 killing of her fourth husband, she stunned the court by telling judges it was true she had murdered him. "I was waiting for the right timing as I wanted to kill him out of deep hatred," the Asahi newspaper quoted her as saying on Monday.
But on Wednesday, Kakehi appeared to step back from those statements. "I don't remember (what I said)," she testified.

Wealth attracts money-grubbing, lazy, unthoughtful gold-diggers, parasites, "friends' etc and in societies where men are often the top earners it's no surprise they attract this type of ppl i.e women and/or parasitic 'friends' (often males). Don't think it's a J (or gender) specific thing tbh.
As for those poor victims, never understood how so many successful, filthy-rich businessmen end up in situations like this. Lack of judgement, neediness, naivety? Imo, if you're filthy-rich, alone and in your 60s/70s the risk -of meeting/ending up with a gold-digging dragon- far out the benefits. I can think of many other/better ways to spend $.
kohakuebisu
I'm with tmarie! Not only did this woman consider it appropriate to gold-dig, she is not even embarrassed to say that she had "deep hatred" for the men she murdered for money.
By my reckoning, the biggest winner in present Japanese society is the unambitious woman who successfully latches onto a man. The biggest loser is the ambitious woman who wants a career and a family. She will be held back by unambitious women as well as by men. Enough Japanese women benefit from the way things are to not join in any struggle for equality, especially since equality means taking the same %$%# in the workplace as all the men do.

OK, this from Wikipedia:
Japan
Sataro Fukiage: raped and killed at least seven girls in the early 20th century; executed 2 July 1926
Hiroaki Hidaka: killed four prostitutes in Hiroshima in 1996; executed 25 December 2006
Miyuki Ishikawa: murdered an estimated 103, but could have been up to 169 infants in the 1940s
Kiyotaka Katsuta: firefighter who shot and strangled at least eight people, some during robberies, between 1972 and 1982
Yoshio Kodaira: rapist thought to have killed 11 people in Japan and China as a soldier; executed on 5 October 1949

Hiroshi Maeue: also known as "Suicide Website Murderer"; lured people from suicide clubs promising to kill himself with his victims

When you challenge people to Google to prove YOUR point it is a good idea to do so yourself first. Just saying.
wtfjapan
Well then, Google 'Japanese serial killer" and tell me what you come up with... mass murderers, murderers, suicides, overwork, cultural pressures , religious cults etc Japan has plenty. Japan ranks very poorly in mental health issues just because serial killers arnt commonplace doesn't make Japan mentally strong society
Toasted Heretic
Nonsensical stereotyping of both women and men.
I hope she gets a suspended sentence; it would be the kindest thing to do with the onslaught of dementia.
bosphorus
Well-deserved death sentence, by hanging. She is a cold-blooded killer that must be eliminated from the face of the Earth for the sake of humanity. And she lies when she says that she is not afraid of death, nobody wants to die.
MaikuC
I hope she does not become a celebrity in Japan like that cannibal guy.
ClippetyClop
No need to Google anything since we are discussing one
drlucifer
There is very little crime compared to Switzerland, Norway, Findland, Malaysia, Bhuttan etc etc
Toasted Heretic
How bloodthirsty. I find that statement more terrifying than a 70 year old stricken with dementia.
Murder is not the answer to murder. It is barbaric and savage.
Dango bong
what man would fall for this goblin?
Strangerland
You come up with some Japanese serial killers. As you would if you googled pretty much any country in the world. What's your point?
bosphorus
People with mild dementia don't kill, serial killers do. Capital punishment is the only solution to deter murders committed with especial cruelty.
Haaa Nemui
Completely wrong. People with mild dementia have killed. Also... countries that have the death penalty are in no way immune to those with tendencies to kill and the death penalty is not a deterrent in the slightest.
clamenza
yes, enough of this stereotyping please, where men are attracted to women. This is 2017.
Hiro S Nobumasa
She must be a product of Unit 731.
Ah_so
An important point. She could have been stopped early had autopsies been carried out. Cyanide is easy to dedect. But there is a shortage of doctors prepared to become pathologists - as a job centred on death, few want to do it. It has negative connotations and is associated with the buraku community.
Japan should be a haven for poisoners.
Schopenhauer
Toassted Heretic and clamenza
My comment nonsensical and stereotype
The bible says nothing is new under the sun. These days people do not read the bible. I am a Japanese and a so called buddhist but I read King James often. I know about your culture more than you know, it seems.
obladi
This is hardly a typical crime, but the exchange of female companionship for money is typical in Japan. The fact that she's no beauty only makes the story more compelling. She must have been persuasive, appealing to the fantasies of these gullible men.
There must also be some near-victims who smelled the weirdness and got the hell away before it was too late.
mataka
I hope this murderer is dealt with quickly and disposed of. Depressingly, the continuing lengthy legal proceedings by an extremely inept, slow and self congratulatory 3rd world legal system in Japan will continue to waste even bigger amounts of our public money. This money could be far more effectively used to benefit our society instead of being wasted on this cancer.
metaterapin
Would like to see the og Church of Misery come back with another album featuring a song about her. Best Japanese band.

Lovely lady , this trader actually helps the economy , you win a little on the roundabouts and loose the lot on the swing

"When you challenge people to Google to prove your point it is a good idea to do so yourself first..."
I did. Now take out all the historic (pre 1960) crimes and what are you left with? Not a lot considering the size and the nature of Japan.
"Japan should be a haven for poisoners"
It is, and for any other barely competent serial killer!!
TheGodfather
Ditto...
