China is destroying the sea. They're the major consumer of endangered sea creatures from corals, seahorses, sharkfins, seaturtles etc. A group of fishermen were also caught in the Philippines for poaching poor sea turtles.

There are over 100 Chinese ships doing this regularly in Ogasawara waters, proudly flying China's red flag. Crafting and sale of red coral is apparently illegal even in China.
There should be an international outcry.

I think all Countries should pass a law whereby any foreign vessel caught inside another countries' waters without permission or for the purpose of poaching or any other illegal act... that vessel can be confiscated and its occupants sent back to their respective countries.
StormR
Again the Chinese flout international law, thumb there nose and disregarding everyone else.
They rape the sea, have no qualms about taking what they want from where they want,
I say next time one of their thieving boats is spotted the Japan Coast Guard should just sink it and keep sailing to the next one.

Without consequence why stop?
There are such laws. The trick is in apprehending them. For example, this article alleges there were a hundred Chinese boats fishing for coral. Earlier this year there were hundreds of Chinese boats illegally fishing in Korean territorial waters. How can you catch that many when they all run as soon as they spot a patrol boat? The Chinese government should inform their fishermen that they should not intrude into other country's territorial waters or be poaching endangered species.

stop messing around. they do it cause its profitable so make it very unprofitable. if they don't stop, sink'em. turn the survivors over to the chinese embassy to send home.

Am I sensing sarcasm in that sentence?

Anti-ship missiles would be overkill but a good burst of .50 cal or a 30mm cannon would do the trick. Put it in the engine room and they'll stop really quickly. Probably the only language criminals understand.

Yes, I was agreeing with StormR. Send the fishermen home w/o their boat.

Indeed. And Japan has every right to enforce them.
Japan should send the ASDF out to strafe all these ships in finds in the Ogasawara area as it is not disputed. If China currently claims that this is not an official harassment tactic against Japan, then these ships are renegade criminals and China has no right to complain when Japanese aircraft sink all they can find.
Would make for good target practice for the ASDF too.

_____ arrests Chinese fishing boat skipper over __ poaching...
Just insert the nation and what the Communist Chinese controlled captain's were doing illegally.
Happens all the time in every part of the world.......

If found guilty the boat and catch should be confiscated. The captain and crew thrown into prison.
zobo
While I certainly don't fault the JCG for catching such criminals, I do find it rather hypocritical considering that Japan and the US military are about the destroy some of the richest coral reefs in the Pacific at Oura Bay, Okinawa, to build a new base. No attempts at distraction here of course.

@drakedogma The difference is China messes up other people's countries. Also environmental protection in China is a joke compared to most other countries.

Yes. I follow the Chinese news closely and understand that anytime now they are going to institute the "rule of law"! However, I am a little pessimistic that it will include International Law.

Tried to answer politely, got deleted.
Sorry : )

this makes me mad, I hope Japan continues to step up its enforcement of it's waters.
danalawton1@yahoo.com
@MarkG... hmmmm... I thought the "consequence", was taking their vessel... or was I not being clear. Do you realize how difficult it is to bring foreign nationals to court and convict them? Not to mention the cost of keeping them in Jail. Better to just take their boats and send them on their way.

You know, as long as it makes money and is apolitical, I don't know that there is too much of anything that is illegal in China, as long as someone in the Party somewhere gets a cut.
unuepb
All politically motivated. Not unlike North Korea, making trouble for China in order to compel the latter to talk to them.
nath
@unuepb You mean China is sending the thieves in because it wants attention? I guess that's possible...

Don't ALL capitalist countries in some way do damage to the planet for the sake of money and profits? China is the biggest one but you can't name me one Capitalist country that hasn't hurt the planet in the name of profits and capitalism, so this isn't necessarily new nor is it exclusive to the Chinese.
Deforestation, over fishing, pollution, and oil drilling all happen in every capitalist country. The problem is the system and lack of regulation
jcapan
What Zobo said, not to mention Fukushima's constant outflow of death.

What's Japanese for "chump change"?

@Mennonite Maiden
You don't see a contradiction here?

@Mennonite
No. Your post is illogical. If you can't work that out, I can't help you.
In addition, I doubt that you're actually a Mennonite, and I doubt that you're actually a "Maiden".
I think you're a bloke and a troll....

well i would have to say i want his ass locked up, show china that these kind of actions will not be tolerated in japanese waters! 6 months may sound like nothing in america, but in japan i think 6 months is pretty fair, especially since they dont make it comfortable like in america.

I hope the apprehended Chinese captain will face all the music. The poachers need a lesson, words won't work. And I really hope that the Abe administration will show determination and won't cowardly release the perpetrator as chicken Hatoyama did four years ago.

Wow, Koreans have more balls then the Japanese.
