What is "humane" execution?
William Bjornson
To kill another Human being is MURDER. Then we, in our 'wisdom', decree 'degrees of murder'. One of the degrees of Murder is 'State Execution'. The 'State' is not the government, it is the body of Humans who comprise the State, a 'Human Identity Group'. When the State executes, murders, a Human, the entire population of that State become accessories to murder and, in the case of execution, 'premeditated' MURDER, or, in other words, 'Conspiracy to Premeditated Homicide'. Given that this is a heinous crime for a small group, how does it become acceptable for a larger group?

A worthy objective.

Filing such a suit against the state seems like a sure-fire way to hasten their own execution.
WA4TKG
Too bad, should have thought about that before becoming a murderer.
Strangerland
What if they didn't do the crime, and were wrongly convicted?

Abolition is the word today.
Strangerland
Basically, unless you can prove that an innocent will never again be wrongly convicted and wrongly executed, any justification of the death penalty is justifying the execution of some innocent people.
Peter Neil
Too bad their victims can’t sue for being inhumanely executed.
Strangerland
I gave a list of wrongly convicted innocents.
The fact that they were lucky enough to have been exonerated before being executed does not make it somehow less egregious. They are proof that the system makes mistakes, as they were found guilty beyond all reasonable doubt, and yet, weren't guilty. And once you're executed, it's pretty hard to get anyone to think you should be exonerated.

The flipside of that bad argument is "people are for the death penalty until they get wrongly convicted of murder"
virusrex
The death penalty itself is retrograde, much more in the Japanese style of letting people be condemned to die for years. Human society has advanced enough to make homicide completely unnecessary as a form of punishment.
Alongfortheride
Easy fix, don't do the crime
Cricky
Yes the number of cases of false information from police and prosecutors that alone should make the death sentence redundant.

Not 100% true. More countries abolished capital sentences than those which have it.
wallace
Capital punishment does not deter murder. Look at America for that.
I wonder how three death row inmates were able to communicate with each other. Lawyers maybe?

This guy was scheduled to be executed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iwao_Hakamada
Had it happened faster, he'd be dead.

Firing squad is better than hanging just as they do in China. Makes criminals think twice before doing a crime. I go for harsh punishment. Criminals are soulless beings, the dregs of society.
Peter Neil
People are against the death penalty until their loved one is murdered.
darknuts
So a bunch of murderers are complaining about the method of their execution. Cry me a river. Did their victims get to choose the method of their execution?
Tomi
Yes they should die the exact way they took the life of their victims.
That should be a human right.
Strangerland
What if it turns out after the fact that they were actually wrongly convicted?
None of our death penalty supporters seems to want to address this question in any way other than downvoting me for asking it.
Peter Neil
The standard for the death penalty sentence is high in Japan, with a lengthy appeal process and retrial possible.
Mose cases are people released from prison for murder who murder again, multiple victims (single victim death sentences are extraordinarily rare), particularly vicious murders of multiple victims, etc.
Can anyone site a case in the modern era where an executed murderer was found to be innocent.
Last, but not least, the Japanese public supports the death penalty by 80%.
Strangerland
The execution would be the violence that was begat, which wouldn't be begat had the killer not done the initial violence. So if the person being executed is the actual killer, I'm ok with it myself.
The problem I have is that no one is ever executed unless found guilty beyond all reasonable doubt (in civilized nations), yet even with qualification, some executed have been found to have actually been innocent. Unfortunately, guilty verdicts are made by humans, and humans are fallible. As such, I personally think it's better to let someone guilty live, rotting in jail until they die of old age, than to accidentally execute even one innocent.
No one here seems to want to address the topic of executing the wrongly convicted though, with an explanation as to how this is justified.
Rodney
All murder is murder. Even if the murderers were guilty. Eye for an eye is a mentality from over 3000 years. Did humans not advance in that time?
TokyoLiving
The execution by hanging will not be removed in Japan..
That is the real punishment, if I'm not mistaken, they only notify them first thing in the morning two hours before their execution.
They should have thought of that before killing innocents..
ian
They should argue they shouldn't be hanged because they're innocent

Live by the sword, you die by the sword.

It is fine for Japan to violate human rights, while accusing other nations for the same crime?
When it comes to the death penalty, this is just part of politics. The detainees are a convenient source to pull from, each time Japan wants to make a statement, by hanging some criminals to make the news.
Strangerland
Bingo!
japancat
Without an ultimate deterrent more people would commit murder I think.
Peter Neil
Woah, not a single instance of someone executed and found to be not guilty in your link.
They were exonerated, meaning the system works.
Did you understand my comment about an executed person being found innocent?
Let’s parse words more carefully.
