They will find out that it’s only kids. Then what? You going charge a kid for stilling ? What will happen is they will contact the parents once they get the info which could take all night. Or charge the kid which means giving up time which could end up being days. Just make a secure box.

Talk about using a sledge hammer to crack a nut!

What have things come to. Stealing from a Shrine.

What a joke, how about just borrowing a used cash regi. from 7-11, these machines cost about 20,000jpy used.

Money goes inn only, a one way street with a dark tunnel since NO BODY knows where that NON Taxable donations goes???

Is the AI cheaper than the average amount of money stolen?

I used to watch a local unemployed man steal from the local shrine every morning. I checked in the wooden box, there was about ¥250 in ¥5 coins. It seemed to be enough to keep him going. I watched for seven years. He looked like he had mental problems. The fact that he did this every morning and the box wasn’t locked, seemed to me that the shrine keepers knew about this and felt sorry for him.

Stealing from shrine donation boxes is severely frowned upon in Japan. There was a homeless guy got sentenced to a year in prison for stealing ¥10 a few years ago.

They will find out that it’s only kids.

No way Japan is at least rich enough for kids not to do such a stupid thing and most kids today are more interested in video games than mischievous.

Artificial intelligence, think they have been basing a lot on artificial intelligence for a long time.

Has potential for other uses for example it could be modified to be used inside stores to detect possible shoplifters and then sending a report to staff

How about just elevating the box and running a tube down and inside to a safe.

Or a QR code to send some money using their phone?

Its not AI, it’s just surveillance people desperate to find a use. It’s like the trend of having to buy AAA batteries in bulk to feed remotes for everything.

How very desperate BOTH sides of this issue must be...

Is the AI cheaper than the average amount of money stolen?

Maybe the most pertinent question of all...

Use a vending machine? Not like they are unavailable.....

What a waste of AI systems. Its donated money why so much effort? Just make the box little deeper, translucent and with one way open spring-lid system. I bet the AI systems will be a monthly subscription type.

Hard to know what was stolen when you don't know what was in there to begin with.

Why its so easy for thieves to open the donations box ?

I doubt artificial intelligence will be any more useful than human intelligence as it was made by humans.

Sad that these measures need to be implemented. What is society coming to?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Let’s eliminate the burglars.

Maybe it’s time to shift to e-money donation.

The simple idea of giving everyone a sufficient and steady income so that no theft is necessary doesn’t come to all those crazy people’s minds, ever will it? lol

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Maybe AI could also find a way for shrines and temples to pay tax on their earnings like other "businesses"?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Well there are no riots, looting, shooting, smash and grab here so what else is there but to protect that little box at the shrines ?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So, it can spy on people and send video to anyone who wishes to register. I guess people who like privacy should avoid shrines from now on.

Why does everything more advanced than chain and sprockets, gears and wheels..... suddenly becomes AI?

My little grandson started picking up coins around one of those drop boxes. I told him to put them back because each one represented someone’s prayer/wish and to take even one of the coins was sure to bring bad luck.
