Perhaps my first post was misunderstood *@*KenHolcomb 9:52am But, “yes”, by his age, I kind of figured he had ‘some time in’ and wasn’t eligible for a court-appointed diversion from a sentence of incarceration:

“first-timers’ is court-recommended, ‘voluntary’ military service. - Seems he may have already played out **that option**.”

Btw: “Thank you for Your service.” Did you ever encounter any new inductees that were give the choice of jail or enlistment? I wander if that’s an option in Japan’s SDF?

After all those career years he now really needs to defend himself on the ground. lol

I always find it weird that Japan doesn't have a military justice system. For better or worse.

I imagine that it has a lot to do with what happened during WWII and the Japanese military not holding its soldiers accountable.

The 27-year-old male resident, who works nights, returned home at around 2 a.m. Goto fled through a window but the resident chased him and caught him. He then brought Goto back to his house where he called 110.

Maybe they should recruit HIM into the SDF?

Sorry snowymountainhell, but the headline reads "Ground Self-Defense member...", not former, not retired. Indicating he is still on active duty, and at the age of 53, he is likely not a lowly private. Not sure impoverished fits the situation here, and if it does it's by his own making since he is still Cole ting a paycheck every month.

I doubt if this is an isolated incident.

There are good people in the Japanese SDF, dedicated to protecting Japan and volunteering t always diligently puts their owns lives in harm’s way anytime there is a natural disaster. - In this case, “One ‘bad apple’ doesn’t spoil the whole bunch.”

Must be one tough 27yr old to chase the perpetrator, subdue him and then, brought him back to the scene of the crime to await police. Perhaps the 27yo should consider a career in the NPA, and/or the SDF?

The perpetrator deserves incarceration & rehabilitation. - I some western countries, an alternative to incarceration for some impoverished, ‘first-timers’ is court-recommended, ‘voluntary’ military service. - Seems he may have already played out that option.
