And showing more humanity and respect for human rights and families would go a long way, too.

"Noting there is an increase in the number of people facing deportation who apply for refugee status, the panel called for not suspending the deportation of those who file for asylum more than once. Application for refugee status automatically halts deportation procedures."

we knew this was coming alright, but we did not have it like you have it.

Seriously? A one way ticket is cheaper than keeping the offenders locked up for a week. If they choose to go on hunger strike, thats their choice.

setting an upper limit to the period of detention, it was not included in the proposals

What is wrong with you, people?!

The only important subject to debate is not included in the proposal.

The Japanese government hasn’t the funds to deport people but keeps them locked up for years?

That is a blatant lie...

How can you penalize someone facing deporting ? Surely deporting them is penalization & matter over ?

Here is a novel suggestion, follow the law.

Alongside calling for criminal penalties, the panel also suggested shortening the period Japan bans re-entry of individuals who leave Japan on deportation orders to encourage compliance.

Daft as a brush.

disgusting. and this country wants its justice system to be taken seriously by the west? disgusting.

If someone can't afford to pay their way out of the country, how will they pay a fine?

Supporters, however, worry the move could lead to lawyers and volunteer workers helping foreigners avoid deportation being charged as accomplices.

Well technically they are accomplices.

About my white privilege.

I was deported a few years back. I had to pay for my plane ticket. I WAS NOT put in detention. I was given two weeks to tie up loose ends like forced break up with my partner, lose my job weeks before my bonus, lose my flat and furnishings etc.

after a few months I came back. Multiple paperwork later I got a visa.

...then years later, I overstayed my visa accidentally by 3 months. I went to immigration and apologized and they renewed my visa.

Again I feel it was “white privilege”.

Again I feel it was “white privilege”.

Why?

Isn't how you did it how they want every deportee to do it?

"About my white privilege"

white privilege is global, white supremacy is global, Japan is sofa sealed with honoring white privilege, you can see it everywhere.

Something is very strange about that sentence.

If the system was clear and workable probably would not have this problem to begin with, I seem to remember Japan accepted a less then handful of refugees last year and the year and the year before that. It's very obvious DO NOT come to Japan as a refugee, let alone on a technical visa.

It seems like everyday there a new law, a new backside-ish law or a new punishless crime Japan keeps coming up with which ALWAYS makes no sense. What they need to do is totally scrap all the joke laws and come to 2020 with new updated and sensible laws. They're talking about they don't have the money or manpower to have these people go back home? Its called catch and release! When you catch these people who overstayed their visa, put them on an airplane hours after being caught. They also should take into GREAT consideration that some of these people have started families here. This being the case, they should be given 1-2 weeks to get their papers right.

Totally agree with it.

BTW,

What do we do with refugees? And over-stayers that want to stay? And Students that missed the renew date of their VISA? And Shoplifters? And Pot-heads? And Street-fighters?...

Oh come on, this requires logical thinking.

maria:

Is that another question that's supposed to test the logical thinking of the Japanese government?

If you dig deeper into mixed kids cases, you might get shocked as to how some of these deportees end up in such situations.

The Japanese women and some J men just want "kawaai"haafu kids, then after the kid is born, they and their families frame the foreign guy/woman and you end up in such a situation and the gvt here sides with their own.I have seen so many,Go figure.

BOKUDA

Totally agree with it.

What do we do with refugees? And over-stayers that want to stay? And Students that missed the renew date of their VISA? And Shoplifters? And Pot-heads? And Street-fighters?...

An elementary question there, ol bean, to which I shall answer it! If you commit a crime (murder, shoplifting (depending on what it is and the cost) drugs), you're out of here! You made your own bed with that one! You knew the rules, but broke it. Fighting, its in our DNA. We've been fighting since we were being conceived. So depending on how long you've been here and as long as there's no life threatening injuries, a couple days in the hole and you're out. Japanese people fight too. We have to defend ourselves. We are foreigners in a different land who have no one to protect us but ourselves. People who overstay their visas or missed the renew date should be a case by case situation. If you miss it by less than a month, you should be good but made to have it taken care of within the next few days. If its like years and years overdue......you out.

I hope I answered your questions in a sensible manner.
