Rather than waste taxpayers' money keeping people like this in prison, I'd like to see them getting fined so much they can barely afford cup noodles.

Need real punishment to deter future corrupt behavior, as public's confidence in elected officials at stake.
If this guy is only slapped on the wrist and others are not charged, it'll only further destroy public confidence.

Best way to punish them is to make them poor. I don't think they pose any physical danger to the public so I don't see the point of custodial sentences.

“Punishment is justice for the unjust.”… this man and the rest of his cohorts are most certainly corrupt and unjust, and as much as they deserve to be punished, they will not be. This country’s justice system is in dire need of overhaul.

But then he'll be on welfare and probably figure out a way to bilk the system there too.

Is PM Kishida deaf and dumb?
These parties are not exactly off the radar are they?
They are all LDP members having these parties of which Kishida is a member.
Abe was renowned for them!
The LDP is a rotten apple-100%

An understandable concern. I don't mind though if it costs less than keeping him in prison, which I doubt they'll do anyway.

I'm sure that as a scion of an LDP dynasty, a faction leader and party president he's known exactly what was going on the whole time. He only regrets that it's all being found out.
Well, it's too late for him now. He could have taken action straight away back in November when this story started to break, now he's going to be slowly destroyed by more and more revelations about the people he's supposedly in charge of.
