What a colossal waste of tax payers’ money....

We need to have people there understand Japan's justice system correctly," a justice ministry official told AFP

They, and the world, understand it all too well, which is why so few people outside of Japan seem bothered that Mr. Ghosn escaped to Lebanon.

"The accused (Ghosn) fled to Lebanon. We need to have people there understand Japan's justice system correctly," a justice ministry official told AFP while refraining from saying whether the visit was directly aimed at negotiating Ghosn's handover.

Hiroyuki Yoshiie has just lost his case. Go home.

Japans govt has NO SHAME!!!

Idiots are clearly running this asylum!!

I hope the vice minister is fully aware this is just for show, because if he believes for a second that Lebanon will willingly hand over Ghosn then he is delusional.

Japan to send vice justice minister to Lebanon to discuss Ghosn

You can't make this up. I guarantee his seat on the plane won't be economy class.

after failed attempts to get former Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn to return for trial on financial misconduct charges.

Yeah, fat chance, whaddya think, Japanese Department of Justice, Ghosn got stupid since his escape?

"There has been criticism in the international community of Japan's justice system. We need to promote a correct understanding of our system and deepen cooperation with Lebanon,"*

How deep are the Justice Department's pockets? Deep enough to get the Lebanese to cooperate Ghosn into their hands?

He dramatically jumped bail and fled Japan at the year end, leaving officials red-faced.*

They were properly humiliated. But they didn't learn their lesson.

A complete waste of taxpayers' money.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Anything to change the topic from what is going on at home! Look at this shiny bobble, forget about how we mismanaged a pandemic!

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Remember boys, In Japan, "image" is important no matter what. So this situation made me think that Ghosn knows something about Japan that can destroy Japan's image. That's why they are doing there best to knockdown Ghosn

Why is the government involved? Bigger problems to worry about!

Nobody can understand the japanese justice system even the japanese, or the foreigners living in japan for 31 years like me. why not explain the justice system to people like us first ???. Flying to lebanon, pls let us, tax payers know the cost.

"There has been criticism in the international community of Japan's justice system. We need to promote a correct understanding of our system and deepen cooperation with Lebanon," said the official who declined to be named."

if it is so right, why declined to be named? could that be shame inside?

VERY SORRY, settle yr problems on yr japanese side first. saikawa is still not charged, there is a old proverb, if one cannot control yr own problems at home, stop chasing the foreginer outside yr country. What are the ministers doing abt the nissan problem ???. Spending tax payers money when U cannot even slove yr internal problems in japan. We tax paying citizens are not interested in the carlos problem. Pls stop wasting time and tax payers money. Pls let me know if U understand the real problems at hand. I can always help U. Flying to lebanon and having a holiday ???. What is it ???.

Problem is not the trial, it is that Ghosn knows too much about Japanese system and company corruption.

he is a treat to the Japanese hostage justice itself.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

We need to promote a correct understanding of our system

Correct understanding? I'm quite sure the world understands the Japanese hostage justice system quite well. A person accused of a crime is stripped of all civil liberties and held in solitary confinement to be interrogated daily without a lawyer present. They are threatened with lengthy prison terms unless they confess, regardless of the truth behind any accusations. They are cut off from the outside world and only allowed limited visits from their lawyer to convey any news. Their incarceration can be extended at any time with trumped up accusations by prosecuting lawyers without any evidence or police involvement. Correct me if I am wrong.

Losing face and saying u are sorry for the nissan boo boo is minimum standard human behavior, laws or no laws. understand ???. How can U represent any serious issues ???. stop kidding around, we are japan is completely over. Wake up.

The conversation of the negotiation will be:

"It's time to send Carlos back to Japan, or the aid stops coming! The ball is in your court!"

They were given a reasonable 30 days to provide evidence to the Lebanese authorities of his wrong doings.

Maybe Hiroyuki Yoshiie, a deputy to Justice Minister Masako Mori, will carry them in a large envelope with him?

Japan seriously needs to let this go. Although they showed Japan to be a corrupt country and they didn't like Gaijin getting mouthy, they need to wear this one.

Hopefully this japanese minister isnt infected and spreading the Corona virus like the Iranian health minister.

Bring that rat back..

far more rats at Nissan and J justice system that need to be cleaned out first

"There has been criticism in the international community of Japan's justice system. We need to promote a correct understanding of our system." AGREE Japan justice system does not honor overseas court rulings but wants other countries to honor its rulings - we get it.

He will return to Tokyo on Tuesday.

They forgot to add "empty-handed"

We need to have people there understand Japan's justice system correctly

People HERE don't even understand the Japanese justice system let alone trying to explain the unfair broken system to people in another country!

Maybe Hiroyuki Yoshiie, a deputy to Justice Minister Masako Mori, will carry them in a large envelope with him?

Not maybe but am afraid this is a reality.

Now Ghosn is an international fugitive. He cannot go to France because the French Government will charge him with financial misconduct too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Send in a ninja squad to kidnap him and bring him back......

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Ghosn should be a very worried person by the visit of vice justice minister of Japan.

Governments DO make deals, deals that are too good that an individual can be sacrificed.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Lebanon doesn't have a ban on visitors from Japan due to coronavirus, yet, so Mr Yoshiie should be met with open arms.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Judging from that downvote, someone actually wishes the japanese minister to get sick. For shame

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

hope they arrest and jail him for visa violations which I am sure they can find or conjure up it's payback time

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

so few people outside of Japan seem bothered that Mr. Ghosn escaped to Lebanon.

JT's Ghosn fan club is not representative of "outside of Japan".

It's time to send Carlos back to Japan, or the aid stops coming!

Lebanon does not live on aid. The average people work hard and pay it all for fat cats that reap all benefits as they own everything (bough with money or less dirty) and escape taxes as they have trusted all positions of power for decades. People are now revolting against that. The Government could benefit -maybe save their jobs- by no longer helping Ghosn escape trials (in Japan and elsewhere) and keep the wealth he's looted.
