Definitely need to learn "Keep Out", in both Mandarin and Cantonese.

Illegal fishing, does that include whales? #seesaproblem
Aly Rustom
exactly! I was just going to say the same thing.

Fishing and hunting whales outside EEZ seems not illegal.

China is the big culprit. Anyone surprised? The US Navy is assisting these islands in protecting their natural resources.

More needs to be done about protecting marine life all over the world tbh, not only by Japan and the US. Everyone should be involved.

Haha is Japan going to police its own illegal fishing as well, that would be a GOOD place to start!
wtfjapan
China is the big culprit. Anyone surprised?
Japan consumes 30% of the worlds seafood exports and is the biggest consumer of seasfood by far, many of the species japan consumes are threatened or endangered, seems conservation has higher priority than illegal fishing . Need to practice what your preeching

OssanAmerica: "China is the big culprit. Anyone surprised? The US Navy is assisting these islands in protecting their natural resources."
And no doubt the majority of what they illegally catch goes to Japan, or Japan is simply worried all the sorry and tuna will be gone if OTHER nations overfish it, too.

Maybe some of you should take the time to actually read about global illegal fishing before posting j-bashing comments based on erroneous information. Japan is not on anyone's list of "illegal fishing nations".

The world's biggest consumer of fish and seafood is CHINA and has been for the last decade.
"China is the world's top seafood consumer, followed by Japan and the United States, a trio leading an unsustainable assault on global fish stocks, according to a new study which measures the impact of fishing practices. China's enormous population gives it the world's biggest "seafood print" - 750 million metric tonnes of the sea's resources consumed each year. Japan has a seafood print of 620 million metric tonnes while the United States consumes about 380 million metric tonnes of the sea's resources."

@OssanAmerica, I seem to recall that Japan's fishing of Bluefin tuna was considered problematic in some places, and needing addressing:

not too sure what the latest is on that, though came across this:

Any ideas ?
