In any case I would think twice about doing any sort of business in China, just not worth it.

I think it is very relevant to know she is of Chinese origin.

And there are at least as many Chinese nationals funneling tons of raw data to Russia, Europe, North America and every other country on the planet

Definitely glad I caught the Japanese bug rather than the Chinese one as a young ‘knew nothing of the world’ fella. Imagine being stuck over there now, trying to self censor yourself to stay alive. Propaganda machine in full swing and the locals turning against you en masse. The stress levels must be almost unbearable. Many have fled and tell a very sad tale.

It is relevant in that China views "huaqiao" (overseas Chinese) as Chinese, regardless of their actual nationality. If she had been ethnic Japanese, China's actions may have been different, and Japan's certainly would have.

Beijing Winter Olympics is coming soon next year. It is held under martial law/curfew to locals and others. If athletes/news reporters go out in night and they are drinking in crowds around convenient stores, they will be arrested detained until all games are over or detained in prison as a illegal spy done there, maybe a few years. Not true. In Guangzhou I took photos of the entrance to a large military base. The guards simply smiled and indicated not to do that and that was that.

It means she isn't some random Japanese person but a Chinese that became Japanese. So she probably speaks Chinese natively and may even have a vandetta against China. Doesn't tell us what she actually did, as China will never make that information public, but it shows she did have the means to be a spy.

I wouldn’t take any photos there these days or at any other Chinese government locations with a maple leaf t shirt on. Maybe it depends on who the communist rep happens to be when in a particular location.

I used to have the desire to travel to China. You couldn't pay me now. There are more than just people of "Chinese origin" being held as diplomatic hostages there. Little by little, the CCP is shooting themselves in the foot

Taking photos of the entrance to a military base is not simply taking photos "near" a restricted area. Naïve at best but most people would say it was rather stupid. If true then you were lucky to get away with it.
