How much more vague can this article be??

’…who is of Chinese origin…’ Is that relevant?

In any case I would think twice about doing any sort of business in China, just not worth it.

I think it is very relevant to know she is of Chinese origin.

26 ( +37 / -11 )

Obviously, no longer a safe place for foreigners with any kind of expressed, or inferred, dissent to the governments’ policies. Glad to have gotten out before it was too late. Wouldn’t advise visiting there, they already know who you are.

Yup perfect cover for a spy, an executive of a Japanese language school! People who are teaching English in China better be careful!

29 ( +33 / -4 )

Tell me why is it relevant? Is it mentioned to distance the supposedly Japanese audience from her?

-7 ( +8 / -15 )

There is so much to be gained from spying on the Chinese , such as their plans for world domination, how to oppress human rights, how to cheaply manufacture knockoffs of patented products, and so on, that the number of foreign spies in China constitutes a majority of the foreigners in China.

And there are at least as many Chinese nationals funneling tons of raw data to Russia, Europe, North America and every other country on the planet

Definitely glad I caught the Japanese bug rather than the Chinese one as a young ‘knew nothing of the world’ fella. Imagine being stuck over there now, trying to self censor yourself to stay alive. Propaganda machine in full swing and the locals turning against you en masse. The stress levels must be almost unbearable. Many have fled and tell a very sad tale.

We have our challenges here, but everything is relative!

arigato nihon!

’…who is of Chinese origin…’ Is that relevant?

It is relevant in that China views "huaqiao" (overseas Chinese) as Chinese, regardless of their actual nationality. If she had been ethnic Japanese, China's actions may have been different, and Japan's certainly would have.

I'm glad I live or work in China. Bleah.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

I'm glad I DON'T live or work in China. Bleah.

17 ( +26 / -9 )

The only hassles and scary things in Japan are getting hassled for a f ew hours when riding your own bike, and going to a deportation detention center.

Glad I do not live in China.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Hey bobcatfish, that sounds fishy… I think you should make a claim to China’s equal opportunity tribunal - that’s discrimination!

And no, I didn’t say the gender was relevant, I believe in quality for all!

Beijing Winter Olympics is coming soon next year. It is held under martial law/curfew to locals and others. If athletes/news reporters go out in night and they are drinking in crowds around convenient stores, they will be arrested detained until all games are over or detained in prison as a illegal spy done there, maybe a few years. I will not go.

The woman, who is of Chinese origin

Japanese people originate from a mixture of Chinese and Korean, so why is this relevant?

-16 ( +6 / -22 )

Any business or individual who does business with Communist China- where there is zero rule of law, arbitrary arrests, political prisoners and mass genocide - deserves no sympathy when things go wrong.

Boycott Communist China. Boycott the Genocide games 2022.

This woman probably a manchurian spy by now, 6 years of brainwashing, she will debrief by Japanese, only too share, what they ask to her Chinese handlers

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

While there are undoubtedly many many spies in China (and there should be) the problem is that you can be charged for simply taking photos "near" a restricted area.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Evil Empire

7 ( +15 / -8 )

Sorry to interrupt you in your China bashing, but you can’t tell me, that spies caught in all of your home countries are treated somehow otherwise or much better. Be a little bit honest to yourself, ok? lol

-12 ( +7 / -19 )

Don’t go to China.

10 ( +16 / -6 )

Chinese authorities let spies not only live but go free? I guess they are far more humane than USA and Russia in this respect.

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

While there are undoubtedly many many spies in China (and there should be) the problem is that you can be charged for simply taking photos "near" a restricted area.

Not true. In Guangzhou I took photos of the entrance to a large military base. The guards simply smiled and indicated not to do that and that was that.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

I'm glad I DON'T live or work in China

They are probably glad you don't as well. But why is it relevant?

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

I'd like to hear what these people have to say about their charges and prison time. Would be nice if someone cold interview them.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Not a very well written story, I'll help:

Chinese woman who took Japanese nationality, released after serving her sentence after being caught spying.

Quite a non story but has to be included as at least one anti China story seems to be a requirement everyday.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Japanese people originate from a mixture of Chinese and Korean, so why is this relevant?

It means she isn't some random Japanese person but a Chinese that became Japanese. So she probably speaks Chinese natively and may even have a vandetta against China. Doesn't tell us what she actually did, as China will never make that information public, but it shows she did have the means to be a spy.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

“The guards simply smiled and indicated not to do that and that was that .”

I wouldn’t take any photos there these days or at any other Chinese government locations with a maple leaf t shirt on. Maybe it depends on who the communist rep happens to be when in a particular location.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Hopefully she learned her lesson

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

She must tell her wrongdoings to other people so nobody will be naive enough to be lured for spying activities for the Japan government because a few dollars offered!

The Japanese government done nothing to help these spies and deemed they were "Expensedables"!

China has consistently charged foreigners for espionage without showing any proof of having a transparent legal process.

Sorry, but I don’t believe a word from the Chinese government.

Boycott China before we are all living under its oppressive regime.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

screw this commie country don’t ever go there because there is no human rights. They don’t deserve to host the Olympics they only do it to win and look superior. Here’s an example of their lying schemes.

CNN)US Customs and Border Protection officers in Memphis, Tennessee, have seized thousands of fake Covid-19 vaccination cards so far this year.

"Every night" officers are seizing shipments from Shenzhen, China, headed to New Orleans, Louisiana, containing dozens of blank counterfeit vaccination cards, CBP said in a press release Friday.

Don’t people have names?

A “Japanese woman”- one of millions…

China has consistently charged foreigners for espionage without showing any proof of having a transparent legal process.

Julien Assange would probably agree that China is the only country which locks up foreigners for dubious reasons.

Luckily Edward Snowden was able to escape to Russia before tyrannical powers could get their grubby hands on him.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Nobody should go to China for ANY reason. It is not a safe place for foreigners that assume freedom of speech and expression is a human right!!!! Entire country must be avoided as a vile state!!!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

convicted for espionage…..

What is this? A B-Movie?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She can go back to Japan and tell her side of the story

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I used to have the desire to travel to China. You couldn't pay me now. There are more than just people of "Chinese origin" being held as diplomatic hostages there. Little by little, the CCP is shooting themselves in the foot

Taking photos of the entrance to a military base is not simply taking photos "near" a restricted area. Naïve at best but most people would say it was rather stupid. If true then you were lucky to get away with it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Is she a Chinese or Japanese? I Got a headaches of this news!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

She’s promised them that she’ll be a double agent while promising Japan that she’ll continue to do the right thing by them too. We know this. The Chinese know that we know. But we make-believe that we don't know and the Chinese make-believe that they believe that we don't know, but know that we know. Everybody knows.
