No guards? If I were a diplomat in Yemen I'd request a transfer or resign. And then I'd buy a one way ticket home.

"what this article fails to mention is how this attack is likely to be a retaliation for the drone strike that killed 17 innocent Yemenis last week."

I've not found one reference in any worldwide news to this being retaliation for drone strikes. Maybe that's why it's not mentioned.

They pulled him out of his car and one of the assailants hit him on the head with a pistol butt, then stabbed him before pushing him to the ground and driving off in his vehicle.

Sounds more like a violent carjacking than an anti-'western' assault.

"Not including any mention whatsoever of how the US government consistently violates Yemen's sovereignty"

No it doesn't. The drone attacks are done in cooperation with the Yemeni government.

Syzyguy,

"what this article fails to mention is how this attack is likely to be a retaliation for the drone strike that killed 17 innocent Yemenis last week."

And it should be mention in relation to a Japanese diplomat being attacked why precisely?

Thats bad, we need extra body guards since our allies (US) is raining terror in Yemen.

Japanese tend to be a little too trusting for their own good, in many places.

syzygy<<, if you, indeed, do "...look at it from the perspective of an Al-Quaeda operative in Yemen," you can be materialized as just that by any Al-Quaeda-rivaling government, and military!

Wait for it...."yappari, gaikoku kowai ne!"

That's it! Yemen has been erased from my holiday destination list!

Yemen is a crap, backwards country so Al Qaeda is supported there. Why does Japan even bother to have an embassy there is beyond me! Drones?? Too bad!! Yemen must pay the price for supporting Al Qaeda, our nice shiny drones must blow the hell out of all of these evil, low down good for nothing terrorists!! Yemen can cry about its national airspace etc...too bad!!

Wow , Japan conducted a drone strike in Yemen, we are enlightened.

They mustve have known they were diplomats and may have known they were Japanese. In many countries the host government issued diplomatic license plates have have numbers that make it possible to know what country the vehicle belongs to. Not sure if this is the case in Yemen but it is widespread. If this was the case they couldve known what country the occupants represented on the spot but with a bit of advanced planning it wouldn`t have been hard to discern.

The JAPANESE carry out drone strikes??? Since when?

We are all waiting for Shinzo Abe and his LDP cabinet ministers to be shot. Make it soon.

Ridiculous. Were there any Japanese people involved in those strikes? Were the strikes conducted or sanctioned by the government of Japan? Who in their right mind lays those attacks on the Japanese consul?

The scum who perpetrated this attack are no doubt criminal opportunists. They may hide behind some flimsy charade of religion to justify their behavior, but we all see them for what they are. Vermin and cowards.

Trying to apply logic to acts such as this is unrealistic. Basically, it seems to be saying anyone from outside Yemen is responsible for what another country does. Japan did not attack anyone.

Thats bad, we need extra body guards since our allies (US) is raining terror in Yemen.

I can never understand people attempting to justify this kind of terror.

Terrorists are animals! They do not care about killing innocent HUMANS, if we do not happen to be of their same religion, or of their same brand of fanatical religious bent, oh well, too bad for us?? We are NOTHING to these terrorists in Yemen, Pakistan, Nigeria etc...so they must be killed off and let the drones do the job nobody else has the balls to do, to go after terrorists and blow them the hell up! This is the only thing animals like these terrorists understand, so I wish I could tell you all, sit down, have some tea, biscuits etc...with radical, brainwashed lunatic terrorists and we will all sing Kumbaya together but the sad truth is that terrorists are EVIL BASTARDS, they will never change and Saudi Arabia too better watch out, since they gave birth to Osama binladen and with their Wahibi brand of extreme Islam are only fomenting terrorism around the world, while trying to blame all of Islamic terrorism on their arch enemy, Iran.

I have met some people from Yemen. Some are very nice people. We have to remember, we are not at war with Yemen, we are at war with Islam. Adherents feel it is OK to terrorize others who do not share their beliefs.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Were there any Japanese people involved in those strikes?

Japan is very pro America and is a lap dog. Frankly I am surprised Japanese folks aren't targeted more due to their "special relationship" with the US. Terrorist don't have to make sense, eh?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

No one is "at war with Islam". That is an outrageous statement. Are "we" (I assume that means "the West") fighting Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, India, Qatar, Pakistan, etc, etc? We are faced with small factions of fanatical criminals who distort their professed religious beliefs to terrorize their enemies. Killing innocents is strictly forbidden in the Koran and all real Muslims know this. Keep your perspective and Stay Frosty....

Meguroman:

True, "we" are not at islam. But radical islam, as represented by groups such as Al Quaeda, Al Nusra, Boko Haram, Hizb-Allah, Hamas, etc etc. is at war with us. And Yemen is an Al Quaeda hotbed, like it or not. That said, we don´t know if this murder was jihad related or simple crime. Everybody is just speculating

"No one is "at war with Islam""

Oh, yes they are. The vast majority of conflicts taking place around the world right now directly involve Muslims.

Are you suggesting or instigating that Japanese people should be attacked and killed because USA use drones?

Syzyguy - the most accurate and informed assessment here, and you get slated!

GTM (giggling to myself)

I guess people like black&white situations, grey confuses them.
