Fix pricing is common business practice in Japan, just don't do that abroad.

Price fixing is a worldwide issue, full stop. Someone did not pay a bribe over there and the result be thrown in prison and send out a message to this company and other foreign countries operating in this Stalin country.

As I understand it, he was not selling ordinary rice grown in Myanmar, but imported rice, (Japanese rice for example) which would naturally be more expensive, for customers wanting something different.

From my understanding he took the fall for the company who is responsible for price setting and knowing export laws of companies they deal with
