Leave him alive for as long as possible in that husk of a body he composed for himself.

2019 crime finally entered trial in 2023, it takes 4 years and days of solitary confinement for a crime that really obvious, he brought fuel tank, he also got burn and so many cctv around that area. Plenty of evidences against him.

Aoba, who nearly died from burns he sustained and appeared in court in a wheelchair, faces five charges including murder, attempted murder and arson.

36 people died, he SHOULD be charged with murder for all their deaths!

Not usually in favor of the death penalty but this might be a contender.

Dreadful tragic event and the survivors and and families of the victims will relive those horrendous details.

He wasn't just in solitary confinement. Given the seriousness of his burns, he was in the hospital for some time. Now he gets his day in court. Hopefully they throw the book at him.

Apparently he travelled all the way from Saitama to do this. I think he was in his right mind if he travelled so far.

People lining up? Nothing better to do today?

More than 90 percent of Aoba's skin was burned and a doctor who treated him told the Yomiuri newspaper this week that he required 12 operations.

I hope it was, and still is, incredibly painful. And, that the pain will last throughout his incarceration which should be at least 36 consecutive life sentences.

I can't believe a young anime fan stood in line for one of those seats and actually said he wanted to hear the guy 'apologize'.

Also staff and director for Hyouka, Yasuhiro Takemoto and many more. Apparently many names were not released unlike outside Japan where it would have been in the public interest to release the names and thus the public cannot honor or celebrate their works which is really too bad

This dangerously deranged imbecile has already spent 4 years longer on this planet than he deserves - he should do the decent thing and top himself without further delay (and massive expense), in order to give the grieving families, who's lives he has totally wrecked, some peace and closure.

This would be the very least he could achieve in order to physically display his sorrow in the most meaningful way.

The survivors and the families deserve their day in court. He needs to explain what he did and why.

Oh he admitted? Hardly a big event, as it is all on video

Japanese society is not as safe as you can believes, some extremist can be very brutal. The reason of this deadly arson was caused by "Animation ideas got stolen", what a strange reason to kill!

He spent 4 years in custody hospital for numerous times of surgery until today he is suitable brought to court. What a huge waste of taxpayers contribution !

The people queuing are probably from the anime community.

The Japanese judiciary is extremely brutal. It is convenient to produce a vegetable in court, than somebody who puts up a defence.

That loser scumbag deserves gallows.. ASAP !!!..

Put that gallows to work...

Many of those killed in the blaze were young staff, including a 21-year-old woman. More than 30 others were injured.

Though a horrific and tragic event, what made that 21 year old an exception from everyone else to be mentioned like that?

About time, I know it’s more complicated than “we know he did it so trial” especially when so many people are affected.

also wonder if anyone was taken to task for the building itself. A studio with dozens of staff but no emergency exits…

This needs to be addressed. But, probably won't be. The victims' employer, the builders, the building's owners, the gov't inspectors all need to be investigated and be held responsible for whatever part they played in the people not being able to escape the blaze.

True. It was so easy for this creep to murder all these people, as they could not get away.
