13 years old might look like 18, depends on the girl but I'm not really buying his story. 7 years in jail is pretty stiff, Cambodia must finally be serious about getting rid of the pedo tourists, good for them.

I'm sure there were others as well, but this guy was the only one stupid enough to show up at the rehab center after she was rescued. Made it easy for the authorities to capture this idiot and put him away. I suspect a Cambodia prison sentence is a death sentence for any length of time and rightfully due for this guy.

Where does it say the girls family sold her into prostitution? It is possible but more likely she was kidnapped or a runaway.

techall, from what I have seen in documentaries, the sale of one or more children to the regular visiting broker is fairly standard there. (Although this could be construed as misrepresentation or even kidnapping.) On what do you base your suggestion that another scenario is more likely?

Yes, the locals do abuse these kids, but 1st Worlders are rightly held to a higher standard. You soil your nation's flag when you buy some starving street urchin in the 3rd World for the price of a sandwich. And Americans should be aware that the Bush government closed the tanker ship-sized loopholes in America's laws regarding sexual tourism with children. JK: Did you not read the part where whe was rescued and in a rehabilitation center? Rescued usually means you were being held there against your will so I doubt that she would have voluntarily gone back into that trade. I really don't know how long a 13yo could have been doing this but even once at that age would most likely leave her phycologically scarred. The children ended up in the wrong hands. Few offenders were severely punishised to set an example.
