9 Japanese men detained in Manila over phone scam brought to Japan

J government needs to set up a hotline for seniors to call when they receive a suspicious call,and need to invest on educating the senior citizens since this scam is out control in Japan.

Yesterday's tv news said they were affiliated with the Yamaguchi-gumi. (Remember these parasites when you get that occasional poster who waxes lyrical about how the yaks are really the great protectors of the Japanese people).

Saw this on the news this morning, turns out that it is not very profitable for the guys making the phone calls.

There's 4 levels to the organisation:

The Boss takes 87% of the scam money.

A and B level takes 5% each

C level (most of the actual callers) got only 3 % of the scam money.

A former C level guy told the news that his salary was around 25,000 yen a month

So many people, locals and foreigners doing phone scams in the Philippines. That's because it's so easy to get a phone number, you can get sims anywhere and everywhere, no identifications needed.

Good thing they were extradited, if they were jailed there they would live like kings with all that money

Informative ex J cop tells me these guys are being punished and/or retrained by their bosses for gangster group indiscretions.

Yeah, this is disgusting on so many levels. I’m glad that these guys were caught, and brought to justice. And for those who suggest that they should serve time in a Philippine prison, believe me I understand. However, I was always one to go by the principal, “two wrongs don’t make a right.”

Besides, that’s why we even have a justice system in the first place. I mean, even with horrible thugs like this, you wouldn’t want vigilante justice, wouldn’t you? Or even with defecto deportation, even though that the crime was committed in Japan. Besides, they did spend some time in the Philippine prison, that’s why they had to be extradited in the first place.

The worst part being that they were transferred here, where they won't be punished. A good stint in a Philippines prison might have done them some good.

All these phone calls and even visiting peoples houses in their thieving.

If they actually did this with a legitimate product, they could have made a reasonable living and be on the right of the law.

I’m sorry for the elderly people that get scammed by these delinquents.

No matter where they come from these subject deserve to be punished by the law.

That's nearly 1 millions each. So disgusting.

These guys are actually very lucky to have been extradited to Japan. The sentencing and jail conditions are far more lenient and favorable than the Phillipines.
