A brief glance online shows his restaurants were popular and that his is missed by the locals. Why do so many readers immediately blame any Japanese person abroad as being naive?

Wow! This really hits home for me. I have relatives in Tijuana, and I’ve been to that place, too. That’s a huge loss. The owner was a great guy and his food made me feel like being back in Japan. Thank you very much! RIP

I actually saw him two days before his murder. I met him when he moved to Tijuana and opened his first store on Avenida Revolucion. He was killed at his second store, it was located in Playas, Tijuana and he lived in an apartment that was above the store. He loved Mexico and the Mexican people. He was an extremely friendly and welcoming soul. There are thousands of comments and post from Mexicans on Facebook. He will be greatly missed.

We used to drive to visit a production plant in Tijuana regularly. Then after a Toshiba(?) executive was kidnapped, we could no longer drive all the way. At the border we had to switch to a van with darkened windows and a Mexican driver who knew the area better. Along the way I often saw law enforcement with machine guns at check points. Sad to see Tijuana go from bad to worse. Awesome Mexican people to work with in the plant though.

I dont know why you would keep such amount of cash in Home in Mexico. Too bad as more Japanese will be targeted in future. Jackpot for criminals. When it comes to living outside Japan, needs some common sense. Not Japanese sense.

Not a surprise really. I lived in that hell of a place for a while, while it's not that bad to visit and get wasted, living there is not for the dumb.

Locals will always try to take advantage of any gullible subject by putting on a facade of fake friendliness, luckily for me I speak the lingo so their attempts always failed with me.

If it's the Ramen restaurant on Avenida Revolución , Tijuana, there are a lot of people there during the day as it's a popular street. I have eaten at this restaurant. Seems like some suspicious activity was going on prior. Then again, anything can happen in Mexico if you are not street smart.

A lot of you would think the US is safer than Mexico. Think again.

It's mexico, sadly what can you expect? most countries in the world are not worth visiting due to danger. mexico is in the top 10 for sure.

IF and when you go to Mexico and you are a foreigner, you can bet you are a target. Yes it is a beautiful place, and yes some of the people are nice loving people. Again you will be a target, human eyes are always watching you.

It's worse there now than ever before. Even the Mexican-Americans who live on the U.S. side of the border think anybody who ventures over to Mexico now are a little crazy. Carjackings are a big problem in many parts right where you cross the border. The police are often nearby but useless and probably in cahoots with the car thieves. Best to drive an old beater if you do want to risk driving over.

There's not much Mexico can do about their neighbor across the Rio Grande. As Mexicans are wont to say: Poor Mexico, so far from God and so near to the United States!

I can think of nicer areas to move to, and set up a business. Tijuana is not one of them, ive seen it on youtube and it looks a toilet of a place, there is something like 2-3 murders a day, unfortunately Yoshida san was one of them.

Yup, he will be missed. Those who made negative comments about Mexico and him in Mexico, have you been to Mexico? Yes, I can be dangerous, but I never saw that so much, but like I said, I have relatives there and other parts of Mexico. It can be dangerous, but the same goes for the US and other countries. The people there are friendly, just a few bad apples and the media jumps on it.

Mexico is one of the most dangerous places to live yet all the Mexicans lucky enough to emigrate to the US constantly bitch and moan about it.

Probably, he had a debt issue with the wrong people. No random thug can go that far for petty theft. They will routinely mug you on the streets and are often very wary of a break-in murder robbery in Mexico.
