I am pretty sure he is a Chinese man holding Japanese passport ... doing babies trading business.

He declined to confirm his client's whereabouts but said the DNA samples had come from Japan.

Seriously? They could be DNA samples from his pet dog for all they know! ....ok, well, maybe his uncle or something. I still don't understand why someone would do this if it's not linked to human trafficking.

Oh come on, we all know his name and what he looks like. The media in the rest of the world hasn't held back so why has the Japanese media? Privacy, you say? Had this been a non-Japanese, his face would have been plastered everywhere in Japan. This is just like the case of the Japanese woman who kidnapped her daughter from her father who had custody and got caught in Hawaii. And how did he make it back to Japan? The media certainly kept it quiet.

At the moment, he may not have done anything illegal, but I just think it's morally wrong to be having so many babies. Wasn't he intending to have 10 a year? Or was it 100 a year? As Tahoochi says, something stinks here. This guy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and thinks he can do as he pleases without consequences.

Thailand’s military government, which took power in May, has given preliminary approval for a draft law to make commercial surrogacy a criminal offense.

Yeah, thanks to this selfish excuse of a 'father'. Regulate it, yes, but I don't believe it should be made illegal.

"following allegations that an Australian couple had abandoned their Down Syndrome baby with his Thai birth mother" - Makes my blood boil. I wish this couple eternal family misfortune. "Downies" are the most amazing little creatures on this corrupt planet. We have one and he's a blessing to all of us, including people around him.

If he has the means to support them, and was intending to do so, then what is the problem?

How much of a parent could he be to each of these babies? The news this morning said he was aiming to have around 100 per year for the rest of his life (He wants to keep having children until he is an old man).

This is not a sane man we are talking about. Completely bonkers, and really wanting to do his part for gobal overpopulation.

If he's supporting them financially, and they are with their moms, then probably a better parent than many out there who are not part of their babies' lives at all.

Gosshhh. This is really weird. I mean, if the guy was Mozart or Johnny Depp, I could understand the demand for his, umm, uh, DNA, but he's nobody special, just a bunny-rabbit trapped inside of a man's body.

The Japanese media aren't reporting his name as his father is a rich businessman and scandals involving such people are rarely reported. It's the usual story of a spoiled son frittering away his father's cash instead of doing anything constructive.

Am not sure to understand, is there something against Thai law there ?

He was identified as Mitsutoki Shigeta in other news stories outside Japan.

Ok, thanks kolohe, with more info it makes more sense to me now.

Japanese news blog article with photos of him, his dad (11th richest in Japan, multibillionaire), his passport page, and possible motive: tax shelter, he would need 1660 foreign kids living outside Japan to give them Y10B inheritance tax-free. At 100 / year he could hit that in 17 years.

police had found no link to human trafficking.

Can someone please explain the scandal to me? sure if they are selling the kids I understand but they are not? Is illegal to have many babies from many mothers in Thailand?

Baby Gammy and the Japanese guy are both commercial surrogacy, "surrogacy is allowed only when the surrogate is a blood relative of the parents and doesn't receive any payment". I http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/07/world/asia/thailand-surrogacy-raids/

... At a press conference in Bangkok on Thursday, Boonruang said it was "very clear" that the clinic involved in Gammy's birth had broken the law governing the establishment of medical facilities.

He said the clinic had failed to ensure its doctors followed the Medical Council's Code of Conduct. The code states that surrogacy is allowed only when the surrogate is a blood relative of the parents and doesn't receive any payment.

... However, if charged and convicted, the clinic operator faces one year in prison and a fine of 20,000 baht (US$619). The doctor who performed the procedure could also be struck off. The Medical Council is currently reviewing the doctor's medical license, Boonruang said.

Being labeled a "rich businessman" in Thailand doesn't carry a lot of weight , but if he can care for the kids and provide them with a decent quality of life then I guess you could argue it's no problem. However it definitely seems weird to go about it this way and there is a feeling that this may be a case of a man with psychological issues taking advantage of a developing country's medical and legal system.

Oh come on, people. If he were doing this with cats or dogs or hamsters, he would be regarded as an animal hoader, and recommended for psychiatric treatment.

Human babies are not hamsters!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Forget about the babies for a moment. I heard that he was in possession of TEN passports!!!! Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship for those above a certain age, let alone decuple citizenship. This alone needs looking into.

So Thailand wants this man? Let's see whether Japan is willing to cooperate.

Kolohe:

The only thing that stopped me from writing his name and uploading links to photos of his face is the thought of censorship on JT. I am surprised. But yes, you can find details about him on Japanese forums. Do the Japanese media really think that even the Japanese don't know how to find out about these things.

Let's see if money wins in the end.

Animal hoarders get committed because they have too many animals that they can't take care of. If he wasn't taking care of the babies it'd be all over the news articles.
