I’m so glad I take trains in Tokyo only once or twice a year, you can see there are quite a few people with mental illnesses roaming around, never know if they will just pop up next to you.
Keio is so lucky no one is dead by now, the outrage would be unbearable over their policy to lock up dozens of people with a psycho inside their carriage

This kid’s logic is funny. No friends, no work, and troubled relationships so he decides “Let’s kill a lot of people” He’s from Fukuoka, but he doesn’t really want to kill anyone he knows (loser be losers) , so he shops around and chooses Tokyo because of the body count potential and lack of familiar ties.
This guy has a mental illness but is still functional. Put him in a farm somewhere and have him work till the end of his days. Some repetitive and boring.

The attacker’s wish to get a death sentence may not be granted. He’ll probably be put through a series of psychiatric tests to prove his insanity, locked up in a mental illness facility for a few years, and then released and he’ll start roaming the streets again for new victims.

This is a more twisted depraved cry for help or attention similar to teenage girls slashing arms. He didn't really want to kill people, just hurt them and get noticed. There's no way he could have failed to killed anyone on a packed car w a knife.

So they had a similar meeting two months prior, yet nobody learned anything about opening the doors in case of an emergency is how this reads. If that is the case, the ministry and the railway companies are a bunch of morons. Something similar is likely to happen again with the doors staying closed yet again, and those imbeciles will be having yet another meeting talking about the same nonsense with no changes. The guy (don't want to hear his name, makes me sick) is an attention seeker. Probably what would have been called a sociopath, or bordering psychopath, lacking a certain 'natural' moral restraint. Give him a lifetime of useful work somewhere and hope that one day he might finally mature and realize what he did.
Meantime I wish they would give us updates on the poor old guy that he stabbed, as this silence gives a bad feeling.
PS There were a couple of extra details on the mainstream news which this article (consciously?) leaves out, such as what was in those aerosol cans mentioned above, and how he sprayed the old man with it before stabbing him.

On suspicion of attempted murder?? Two days after being caught on the scene? Not sure if this is really reflecting dense police work in Japan or simply a poorly written article.

Unless Japan does more to help these mentally disturbed people, these incidences are just going to increase. Japan already has the highest number of mentally ill people per capita in the whole world, double the next highest country. Why the government does nothing about this is mind boggling.

The prevalence of Common Mental Diseases (CMD) in Japan is relatively low. Japan stacks up favorably against the United States, which ranks fourth globally in wealth inequality and has recorded a prevalence of CMD that is approximately three times that of Japan.

I understand people want to know more about the incident, but getting famous is part of why the crazy guy did this, the less is published about him the best, focus on the victims and safety measures and not on the criminal.

It is true that Japan has the highest number of hospital beds for not only the mentally-ill but also for whatever-ill-requiring beds. which, I mean, is not necessarily a good story but related to the business of hospitals and the system.
I don't mean to be offensive to anyone, but those regular posters here might want to check if you are and mentally healthy

This guy went on a rampage, he attacked 17 inocent people, quote, "I thought I could kill a lot of people in Tokyo," He went to kill people, he had the intent, by the luck of god he didnt kill any one.
What do you surgest the dept of justice do with him? lock him up for x years? there is something seriously wrong with him, as for killing him, its border line with me, wether he stays alive or not.

We can only be thankful that Japan has the strictest gun laws in the world to keep everyone safe. Imagine if he had a semi-auto rifle to attack the trains like Americans do.

Yeah, he set peeping camera in the shower room at an internet-cafe he worked as part-time and got busted later, which was the fault of the society. He broken up with his girlfriend he had gone out with long time and became mentally unstable, which was the fault of the society, he moved around after he resigned call center job after being transferred due to the customers' claims about his attitudes, that was the fault of the society.
All other options closed off because he kept crushing them one by one by himself except last option getting out of the society which he didn't have guts to pursue. Perhaps you can show him how to do take such last option.
