JR West executive accused of molesting schoolgirl commits suicide in park toilet

A West Japan Railway Co executive accused of molesting a 17-year-old high-school girl on a JR train has apparently committed suicide by hanging himself in a public park in Osaka.

The body of Hidehiko Kinbira, 56, who heads JR West’s Kobe office based in Hyogo Prefecture, was discovered hanging by his neck in a public toilet located inside Nagai Park at around 9 p.m. on Dec 25, police said. Near his body were six sealed letters addressed to family members and his employer.

According to a Fuji TV report, officers from Tennoji Police Station took Kinbira into custody on Dec 21 for allegedly molesting a female high school student on the Hanwa Line between Bishoen and Tennoji stations. Kinbira had reportedly denied the allegations, claiming that any physical contact with the girl had been unintentional. However, a 24-year-old male office worker who had helped to detain Kinbira on the train confirmed the allegations against Kinbira.

As the train arrived at Tennoji Station Kinbira fled from the scene and was shortly thereafter caught by a station employee, Fuji TV reported. The victim told police that Kinbira had molested her on the Hanwa Line on multiple occasions over the last few years.

Kinbira was arrested following the event, but later released. He was reported missing by his family on Christmas morning and his body discovered later that day.

"multiple occasions over the last few years", and she waited until last week to complain? Or was it because there was a witness to the last "molestation"?

Seems to me that if you had been a victim to the same man several times, you say something or change your seat when he sat next to you. Very curious.

The victim told police that Kinbira had molested her on the Hanwa Line on multiple occasions over the last few years.

"....over the last few years....." and she is just 17 years old?

A few years?? Did they know each other?? Or was she too stupid to move away, not let this old goat keep feeling her up everyday on the train?? She sounds dumb as a box full of rocks, RIP old pervo

She said 「約2年前から、同じ人に数回痴漢をされていた」. "From about two years ago he has molested me several times."

Her story seems quite believable. The train wasn't so crowded.

So first we blame the victim for not taking action, not speaking up, being stupid. Then we assume they knew each other. Next, I guess, we will assume she was being paid.

Or, we acknowledge that in Japan older men are in a position of either real or imagined power and young people (especially females) are in the weaker position. Then we realize that many rapes in the US are not reported because of fear of one kind or another (of the rapist, of the attention, of ignorance). Then perhaps we can assume the 17-year-old was too frightened to speak up until now.

Condolences to the family for having to suffer from the suicide.

So from some of the comments here she is guilty of exactly what? Not speaking up sooner? Not moving away from a molester stalking her? He's an exec and she's a high school student. Can't figure out what that means in Japanese society?

Nicely put Borscht +1 from me

3 ( +7 / -4 )

This girl is guilty of nothing. Is it so difficult for any of you to imagine the situation?

She is young, at school and has to take the same train every day. He gets on the train the same day too, and while he doesn't find her every day, he does find her often, and when that happens, he molests her.

She is scared / thinks it is uncomfortable but normal (this is Japan, after all) and does nothing, so he continues this over the next couple of years, most likely getting worse at it when he is still drunk from the night before, like a great number of guys I see on the trains in the morning are.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

sensei258, nice! Blame the victim! Bet you are a guy. Besides, I dont think the guy would kill himself if he had nothing to feel guilty about.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

A terrible waste.

Didn't a JR Hokkaido exec kill himself last year in Ishikari, Hokkaido?

There needs to be some way for people to redeem themselves, like spending a year in volunteer service to show real remorse and turn something bad into something more positive. Maybe that's too big a come-down for the high and mighty. Suicide's the easy way out.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

like spending a year in volunteer service

Nessie - even for a joke is not good: how about "like spending 10 years behind bars".

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

How many more other victims are out there ? What happened to the train cameras and the Police & Train company PR campaign to rid trains of Hentai dudes ???? I guess the train camera didn't work or he had the camera SHUT OFF. I don't understand it ? Why do all that ? He could have easily bought a prostitute...... Should be more decoy cops dressed as simple high school girls on the train and arrest these fools !!!! Japan has more perverts per capita on trains !!!!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

So, he desided to kill himself, but still manages to write 6 (six) letters. A real "Sarariman" by the book, get everything neatly cleaned and sorted out before switching off the lights in the office.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@ Ben Read - Of course he has something to feel guilty about. Guilty for being a perv, guilty for embarrassing his family, and guilty for being an executive who publicly denounces the behavior he was so fond of. In the end, I still have to ask why a victim of repeated assaults over several years would not just change seats, yell when there were so many witnesses, or even hit the "SOS" button. And, last time I looked, I didn't blame the victim, merely said it was "curious" meaning I don't understand. Yes, I am a guy (You can ask my kids and grand kids) who by the way has 5 years experience investigating rapes and sexual assaults.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

coward.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I'm confused about the ''2 year ''thing. Did he know her? How did he know her routine so well?

The whole campaign to get rid of chikans hasn't worked. For the ''Ladies Only'' cars usually have men in them.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

To kill himself on Christmas! Disgrace!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

JR West can give some lessons to TEPCO executives on accepting guilt.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Bored of timid little creatures. She should have reported it the first time it happened.

I would be embarassed to admit it had gone on for years, not that it happened once.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Nessie - even for a joke is not good: how about "like spending 10 years behind bars".

Ten years behind bars for train grops? How about "not."

0 ( +2 / -2 )

so he's been molesting her for several years on that line and she chooses now to blow the whistle? come on, the poor guy must have assumed it was fine between the two of ya since he's been at it for so long, you practically gave him permission

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Has any of you judges given it a thought that the charges might have been trumped up and seeing as there's no way to escape it the shame, the man ends his life. Sometimes, these ladies make false claims too. And yeah, I'm curious too, what special happened on this last occasion to warrant the arrest.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

This is just sad all around. Unless she looks like a supermodel, one's life is not worth the high school girl, ya perv.

And 2 years is what happens when ya don't fight back and thus become a target. She must had enjoyed it.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Sometimes it is not just ladies, sometimes there are GROUPS, yes trained groups to put a young girl, lady etc..near a Japanese guy that looks like he has $$$, so the girl gets close and claims that the man rubbed up against her, etc...then a "real nice bystander" pretends that he has her best interest, says he will call the police, but THEY ARE SCAMS! The "innocent bystander" is really is the boyfriend, pimp etc...just looking for easy pray to get $$$$! So beware! In this case, my guess it was not that, but just as Macpaul points, some of these incidents, the men are INNOCENT and we should this happens not only here in Tokyo but all over Japan.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Elbuda, what the heck are you talking about? That is too convoluted...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

One less sick, perverted old man to take advantage of a young girl. Couldnt even grow a pair to own up and face the fact that he is (was) a sexual predator. Now look at him.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

In his letters, did he admit guilt?

The victim told police that Kinbira had molested her on the Hanwa Line on multiple occasions over the last few years.

This is the part I find incredible. Last few years? And you took no evasive actions to make it more difficult for him to find you, or catch you alone? And you never told anyone until now?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Pathetic scum can't even admit guilt and take responsibility for his actions

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Yabits, have to agree with you on this. There shouldn't have been a second time, much less"over the past few years", or it's a scam.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

coward..?!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@mikihouse..... he left 6 sealed letters. Who knows if one contained his apology. Commiting suicide is another way in Japanese culture accepting the worngdoing and asking for forgiveness.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

i am sorry for the girl and for the man and his family as well. A sad story but it is useful to have it reported. thanks.

I think all child molestors have rights. They are human beings. (No, I don't feel that way, but everytime I express something negative about child molestors, the moderator removes it for being offesnive. So, this post is NOT offensive. It's unfortunate that you cannot exptress opinions on this forum due to biased moderators.)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

To all the bandwagoners-

Nessie's right. Train gropes are on the level of give the guy a smack, call out in a loud voice, and/ or walk away from him. This is not a capital offense, and to compare it to rape or repeated molestation of a child is to cheapen the fear and trauma of rape or real child molestation. (real= you have the kid alone with you and complete power).

The fear and the trauma are on totally different levels.

Before you ask, yes, I have been a victim of many gropes- tho I admit being a man probably lessens the fear. And, yes, I have been close to several victims of rape/ childhood abuse. They are just different worlds to me.

A train groper should be smacked and humiliated, if it goes legal, then some kind of community service. Jail? Maybe not. Fired? Depending on the public nature of the job, possibly necessary.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Glad the guy got pulled.

"Last few years" means repeated molestation of a child at least since she was 13 or 14.

My daughter met one of these in a bus in Kobe when she was 12, and she was not a happy child that day. They are in there and they need to get weeded out and publicly shamed. Then they need to find a new way to get their kicks in an otherwise boring and humdrum life.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Nandakandamanda, I agree with your post.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

For clarification, I only mean that I am glad he called pulled over, pulled out of the transport system in what looks on the face of it to be a clear-cut situation.

The suicide on the other hand is very sad; the presence of five sealed letters adds to the sense that the guy was ashamed, that something inside himself felt bad about what he was doing, but that he was unable to stop himself.
