I still don't get how Otani wouldn't notice $16m 'missing' from his accounts....

160 mil that is, but seeing as the wins went to mizuhara's account and not ohtani's it felt odd that he would be in on it.

That's because for most of us, we don't make that much money. Him trying to notice 16 million dollars missing is like the rest of us trying to notice a few dollars missing from our bank account. People think this kind of thing doesn't happen, but forget that there are so many famous athletes, movie stars, and CEOs who have had millions of dollars stolen from them from people they once trusted. It happens. It's just unbelievable for us ordinary citizens since we live in a different world than the ultra-rich do.

He still deserve second chance, Japanese media already labelled him with suspect

Why does he? Persons in his position handling others’ money should be a cut above the rest when it comes to ethics and compliance. He’s a thief (subject to conviction) and has been doing this long enough, second chance is not for such cases. His second chance will be the time he does , if convicted.
