A junior high school boy admitted to police that his claim a man had attacked him with a knife was a lie and that he had inflicted the injury himself, police said Tuesday.
Police said the boy ran back into his junior high school in Ota Ward at about 4 p.m. Tuesday and told staff that a man he didn’t know had cut him with a knife. On receiving a call from the school, police rushed to the scene and searched surrounding areas looking for the assailant, but the boy later admitted that he had in fact cut himself with the knife and made the story up to get attention.

I wonder why he lied? Not much information.

I wouldn't like to have this boy working for me as a 'Journalist/Reporter in the future.' JT is saying that he is junior, how old is he? I think that he was looking for a good publicity with 'MEDIA.' Take him to shrink before he figure out something else on account of taxpayers money.

Maybe Japan is not such a violent country.

In a strange way, I think this kid might be praised for getting the cops off their collective axses and out into the field.

Samurakiiki- ADD sufferers can't pay attention. they don't want attention.
Samuraiiki
That is right, he was not paying attention to the rules.

I think my mother-in-law has played this game so many times with me and my wife so that we pity her, when her sister "thrashes" her.
DeepAir65
give him attention - treat him like an assailant
bobcatfish
hmmm - 13 year old boy...60 year old mother in law. spot the difference

So, this kid gives himself a serious injury just to get attention? That's SOP in Japan. I'm surprised he didn't knife one of classmates or even hang himself to get attention. I wonder which social networking website he got the idea from?

Yeah sorry but I've never seen someone with ADD want to cut themselves for attention. Like bobcatfish said, they can't pay attention. Not that it matters, ADD is so overdiagnosed it's not even funny.

I'm no expert, but think this sounds more like Münchausen syndrome - recently made notorious with the mother with the 'proxy' version injecting things into her children's intravenous.

Then again, I guess if the motive was just to get out of school, that would be considered malingering...
