A 28-year-old unemployed man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he stabbed a 60-year-old male employee of a ward office in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4 p.m. Thursday at the Takatsu Ward office, Fuji TV reported. Another employee said the suspect, Yuki Honda, who lives in the ward, had asked for the victim by name at the public welfare section on the fourth floor of the ward office. He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man.
Other employees subdued Honda until police arrived. Honda was arrested on an additional charge of obstructing government officials in the performance of their duty.
The victim was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition on Friday, police said.
Honda was quoted by police as saying he meant to kill the victim. He had visited the public welfare section two hours prior to the incident and was talking with the same man then. Police said he left and went out and bought a knife.
Police said they are investigating the cause of the dispute between Honda and the victim.© Japan Today
