Knife-wielding man arrested at JR Shinjuku Station

A 25-year-old man wielding a knife was arrested at Tokyo’s JR Shinjuku Station on Wednesday.

Station authorities called 110 just after 3:40 p.m. and said that a man was waving a knife near the ticket gates of the station’s east exit, Fuji TV reported. When police arrived, they subdued the male suspect, who was carrying a fruit knife with a 13-cm-long blade, and arrested him for violating the Sword and Firearms Control Law.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the suspect, whose name has not been released, is unemployed and lives in Tokyo. He was quoted by police as saying, “I was irritated because I couldn’t find a job and have been fighting with my family, so I wanted to go to jail.”

I was irritated because I couldn’t find a job and have been fighting with my family, so I wanted to go to jail.”

You will. Waving a knife in public will do that.

And the crazies are out and about. Why do they always have to go to the train stations? Seriously glad no one was stabbed or hurt. Okay man. Off to the clinker you go. Maybe you can get a job crushing rocks on the chain gang. Do they have work programs when incarcerated in Japan?

"I was irritated because I couldn’t find a job and have been fighting with my family, so I wanted to go to jail.”"

IMO Somehow sadly in his mind, and within a rigid, controlled, censured, and ostracizism, this was "his" solution. 3 hots and a cot, and grudgingly stigmatize the fam name. Maybe many would argue, that well at least he didn't JUMP. The closing walls and doors in a society, can be merciless, even for those who have PhDs and are flipping burgers.

Japan has, a Sword and Firearms control law. The USA does not.

Japan needs to decrease the quality of the way inmates live because people will just go on a rampage to go to a comfortable jail. A jail should be a place to suffer and repent for your misdoings, not a 2 star hotel.

Couldn't find a job? Whatever could be the reason why.

"waving a knife near the ticket gates"

when I lived in Japan , many moons ago, I and a friend of mine knew Shinjuku station , could have its times, especially with a lot of loitering going on. Occasionally I would here some yell out something really loud, or see one having a conversation with itself, or the huge inconspicuous homeless varieties in the nooks and crannies. Other questionable characters could walk right by the fuzz.
