Knife-wielding man held over disturbance on Tokyo sidewalk

Police in Tokyo's Adachi Ward said Monday they have arrested a man for brandishing a knife and creating a disturbance on the street.

According to police, a call came into 110 at around 3 p.m. Sunday, reporting that a man was puncturing car tires with a knife, Sankei reported. Interrupted by a gasoline station attendant, the suspect fled. He grabbed the wrist of an elementary school boy who happened to be passing by, and attempted to drag him away.

A male passerby tried to intervene and was threatened by the knife-wielding man, but the gasoline station employee was able to subdue the suspect.

Police said the suspect is a 60-year-old man from Tochigi Prefecture. At the time of his arrest, he was also in possession of what appeared to a homemade grenade or explosive device, from which smoke was coming, and a gun made by a 3D printer, in his rucksack. Police summoned a bomb disposal unit before proceeding to take the man into custody.

Police said the man's speech since his arrest has been incomprehensible.

Someone else in need of jailhouse mental intervention. (Needs to be locked up while getting help physiologically)

No need for this guy to worry... plenty of people to defend him as innocent of the crime of he has mental problems. I say lock him up! As for 3-D printed guns, these are a new thing that are going to become more of a problem, and a very serious one, from now on. I say the government quickly makes legislation that makes possession of such a gun punishable up to 20 years in prison, and manufacture of one illegally punishable by even more. Nip it in the bud!

Do you not think he sounds like he has mental issues? Or are you saying he should be held culpable even if he is not able to distinguish right from wrong?

At times I am glad to be in Nagoya.

i would say it takes some mental acuity and planning to make a bomb and print a gun,,,

Mental acuity and the ability to distinguish right from wrong are separate things.

Ah, the crazed geriatric crime wave continues.

"they can do stuff like that in Japan and live-so lucky, in Los Angeles his "incomprehensible" speech would be heard from the spirit world.

Award, promotion and pay raise for the gas station attendent.

He didn't go into this guns ablazing. He slashed tires, grabbed a random schoolboy and threatened with a knife but didn't seem to harm anyone as if he was trying to get arrested for some reason.

The 3D printed gun certainly adds a new wrinkle to this case. I wonder if he had some sort of grievance or was trying to make some kind of point.

Strange news but happy the little boy was NOT hurt by this crazy old fool, this guy needs to be LOCKED UP and I really doubt that any medicine can help, so just THROW AWAY THE KEYS!

I wonder where he had the gun printed? I know there is a shop in Nakano Broadway that does 3D printing, but I can't see a business facilitating this idiot. Where does a mentally imbalanced individual get their 3D printing done?
