A man wielding a knife on a bus was arrested in Fukuoka Prefecture on Sunday.
Police said they received a call from a passenger on the bus at around 11 a.m., saying that a man was brandishing a knife, TV Asahi reported. The bus was traveling along the Kyushu Expressway on its way from Nogata to the Tenjin Bus Center in Fukuoka. A passenger also put a sign with the message "SOS. Please call police" on the back window.
The bus stopped near the Dazaifu interchange at around 11:40 a.m., at which time police boarded it and took a man, identified as Masayuki Kobayashi, 26, into custody. He had a knife with a 12-cm-long blade, police said.
None of the 20 passengers or the driver were injured, police said.
Police said Kobayashi, who is unemployed, has so far given no motive for his actions. The bus driver was quoted as saying that Kobayashi only told him to keep going straight ahead in the direction of Kumamoto.© Japan Today
