Two knife attacks against students on streets in Chiba, Ibaraki

Police said Wednesday that a 20-year-old female university student was stabbed in the abdomen by a man as she was walking along a street in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, on Wednesday.

According to NTV, the incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. The victim was quoted by police as saying that a man, dressed in a black jacket and jeans, and whom she didn't know, walked toward her. She said he sneered at her and then stabbed her with a bladed weapon, before fleeing.

NTV said the student, whose wound was not deep, was able to walk to a nearby police box.

Meanwhile, a junior high school boy on his way to school in Yachiyo, Ibaraki Prefecture, was chased by a man brandishing a knife on Tuesday.

According to police, the 13-year-old boy was riding his bicycle at about 7:30 a.m. when the man walked toward him and produced a knife that had been concealed on his back, Fuji TV reported. The boy escaped on his bicycle and was not harmed.

Police described the man as being around 170 cm in height, wearing black clothes and a hat. Patrols have been increased at nearby elementary schools and police are urging local residents to remain vigilant.

No kidding....too many mentally ill people in Japan. I'm guessing its another teenager who's going to give another really dumb reason like: I wanted to know what it is like to stab a person.

What is the fascination with knives about?

Eh? What's going on here? It is less than a week since the culprit was caught, right? Is it possible to have a copy cat few days after the offender was arrested?

Maybe somebody didn't tell these copycatters that the stabber has been arrested. Information flows slowly for the liteally challenged.

My knife is bigger than your knife. I'm sure these idiots see themselves as a hero but they are anything but.

@Charles M Burns

What is the fascination with knives about?

Criminal psychology suggests that knives are substitutes for the penis. Penetration by another means, in other words. I don't know how it explains women who stab, but there you are.

In addition, and on a more practical level, knives are just so much easier to get here than guns.

There are always balmy people and those that aren't.

"Criminal psychology suggests that knives are substitutes for the penis."

I didn't know that but I do know both are weapons.

This news is so sick!!! and I just happened to see a Japanese tv dorama (soap opera) and it started with some young Japanese idiot carrying a knife and just walks up to a poor Japanese girl and suddenly STABS HER! This kind of tv show is helping put horrible ideas into the minds of idiots here in Japan.

And the government wants to make getting rifles easier? If this guy had a rifle, he could take out people from the comfort of his second floor apartment and they wouldn't be wounded or escape. They would die.

More copycats.. Jeeze, the Japanese can't even be original in their crimes. Pathetic.

Like I said in a previous post, must be something in the water.

Tis the season to be stabbed! Fa, la, la, la, la....la, la, la!

Dress me now in a knife proof skivvy! Fa, la, la, la, la....la, la, la!

And who was it yesterday saying this thing rarely happens in Japan? It happens almost daily as of late, it seems. As for 'it's either a copy-cat or the real criminal', how so? 通り魔 is a Japanese term that is not easily translatable because it is a common occurence here whereas it may not be elsewhere. As such this could well be just another sicko out there who wants to cut/kill people for now reason, or because he/she is jilted because of an ex., or whatever the pathetic excuse for the day is.

Regardless, I hope they catch this person, and quick! and needless to say I hope the victims are doing okay physically and mentally.

So the girl saw the attacker's face? Was he a minor, or an adult?

I seriously do hope that if and when the arrested attacker just a few days ago is proven to be guilty, that he would be sentenced as an adult to show these copycats that not all minors can just stab someone, say "gomennasai" and be on his merry own way like nothing happened.

Looks like the copycats are coming out of the woodwork now. Scary.

WilliB: "Looks like the copycats are coming out of the woodwork now. Scary."

This is not just directed at you, but to all those who suggest it's a copy-cat action. It MAY be, but I doubt it. This kind of thing has been happening LONG before the kid who was caught the other day committed the acts, and it will keep happening yet. Come on... there have been HEAPS of similar incidents over the years... why is it suddenly 'copy-cat'?

What is the fascination with knives about?

The inability to acquire a gun.

JT, thank you for removing the comments trying (and failing) to use isolated cases like this as proof that all of Japan has some sort of problem. Glad to see that that sort of mentally challenged xenophobic rant has no place at your website.

why is it suddenly 'copy-cat'?

Who says its sudden? While its true that there have been plenty of similar incidents, I kind of doubt that the "stab a random person and run" crime is usually a result of original thought.

what is wrong with the world today... can't a fine young woman go for a walk without being brutualized by some random nutcase? that guy better be happy i am not there or i swear i would go hunting for him myself, and believe me i'm a very resourceful person.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

why is it suddenly 'copy-cat'?

Because they are all within the same area, within a few days of each other and yet carried out by different people?

We are forgetting that Japan, in comparison to many other countries, is still very safe from such types of attacks. I guess the difference is people here do such crimes because they are crazy, not out of desperation for money/drugs/etc like in some countries. Lucky there isn't many guns around or gang bashing's, etc. Anyway, hopefully these idiots will be caught asap and given a suitable penalty.
