Of course, MRSMR a test would be able to identify whether she was good at her job. As with the Olympus case, a test was obviously not administered for those guys either. I wish Japan would get on board with the job-testing thing.

Fortunately, she is the only dishonest Japanese person. Of course all other Japanese people would disclose that information. I think everything will be ok after this incident. With a little more ganbarre, she will be better and back soon! Funny how so many people cannot seem to find work, but a convicted felon has no problem...

They should have done her back ground check before they hire her. Hospitals should be a place which cure Patients. Not hurt them. It says she was an assistant. Was she a nurse? If so, I really don't understand how she could be a nurse. I thought there is a test decides if a person who wants to be a nurse is really good at it. Her character obviously shouldn't be in a hospital.

OMG! That's most likely a psychological disorder! She should be sent to a Psychologist! Make her stay away from others! But then again, it all depends on what the court decides for her.

its not 1 or 2 or 3 times... 49 times.... i am sure she will come back for her 50th chance.... some thing is there.... she should be send to counselling center or hypnotism for finding her past experience which led her to a such a cruel behavior... its really a terror.... tearing off the nails .. do you know how much pain it is....

what a strange thing to do... still its not the weirdest thing i have heard or seen before. I just hope she gets some professional help. While i am all for jailing her for tear toenails off the elderly, its just as important she get taught how to control her frustration and let it out appropriately.

This sounds to me like someone who will just get out and do it again. She has MAJOR mental problems. Someone suggested putting her in an insane asylum which was my first thought as well, but after rethinking it, I think it would put the helpless mental patients at risk. I think she would find a way to target them. This woman should not be allowed around old, sick, or weak people or children, but if she lies on job applications and there is no system to find the truth, she will just be doing this again in no time.

It's O.K. to jail her or any similar criminals if it is the law, though I think it would be equally important to make sure she will never find her way back to any hospitals and would be banned forever from any kind of jobs where she can get in contact with other humans or animals and assign some simple job to her where she can't cause damage or pose danger to others even in indirect way.

For me imprisonment doesn't manifest itself as a useful punishment - for I never met any cases where punishment changed people for better, it just put temporary fear in them - rather as a mean to protect the society by removing dangerous people. What protection is it if after release the criminal is employed for the same job and can continue with the crime? Sorry, but to employ and not to supervise her properly and let the same thing happen, knowing she has a history of it, is professional negligence and also a crime. Why only she was held responsible for what happened?

I work PART TIME as a football referee and because I work high school games, I have to go through a criminal background-check with the State Police EVERY YEAR. People who are employed to work with vulnerable people need to be verified through criminal background checks, not just rely on their honesty.

I can't imagine the horror those poor patients faced when they was tortured that way. And how can they ever trusting anyone else to care for them?

Employers never or rarely check resumes in Japan. They assume everyone is being honest. My ex-wife used to lie all they time on resumes to get part-time jobs. She said if the knew her real education level they would never hire her. Not one of her employers ever checked her resumes. Employers (as other readers suggested) must start calling previous employers and references. This nut job deserves a stronger sentence for her repeat offense. She will do this again when she gets out in 3 years. Japanese courts and employers aren't smart enough to change.

In Germany we have a register, everyone applying for a job there has to bring a copy approved by the government, which is hopefully empty.

Why was she aloud to return to the work after serving time for this? There should be a check up on each person who works in the home to make shore he elderly is in a safe environment. People send there family here to be safe and taken care of. Such a sad sorry. :(

How are you going to actually use it when there is no way to accurately check if the person is actually who they say they are? No social security numbers, nothing like that to TRACK everyone down.

Then you would have to find just about every company culpable in some manner or another, seeing as how nearly all businesses here including hospitals do not do background checks on employees as the system here is not set up for it.

Also resumes have no boxes on them to check if a potential applicant for a position has ever been convicted of any crime.

Sounds like a mental hospital is a better sentence. Let her out when she isn't criminally insane anymore, which is usually never for these types.

I remember when the first story appeared after her arrest. Like the other posters at the time, I was surprised she had been able to get back into the same line of work after a criminal conviction. I'm so glad she has received prison time again. But what about this:

I'm sorry, Mr "Head of the hospital", but when you hire people to take care of the vulnerable, the onus should be on YOU to do the proper checks, and not rely on the applicant's honesty. Sorry, but it doesn't wash. So let's hope something is learn from this, and background checks made compulsory.

Sick twisted bitter woman, how could she have been allowed near patients the second time, does the health system lack being able to stop demented nutters like this from "caring" for sick aged people?

I hope this woman suffers severly through her later years then some justice will really have been served.

Mandatory police history checks should be carried out for anyone wanting to work in hospitals or schools.

Toenail by toenail so that when the first one that was pulled out grows back in it's ready to be pulled out again after the other nine have been removed. Repeat until 3 years are over!
