Kyushu sex worker tries to drown 5-year-old son in bathtub

An employee of a sex club was arrested for attempted murder on Thursday night after she allegedly tried to drown her five-year-old son in the bathtub of their Kita-Kyushu apartment. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital and is in good condition, police said Friday.

According to police, the 25-year-old woman tried to drown the boy in the hot water of the bath around 8 p.m. She called police and reported that she had submerged her son in the bathtub. Police arrived on the scene to find the boy naked and crying, and took him into protection.

The woman explained that she had gotten angry at the boy's behavior. Police are currently investigating whether or not she may have abused the son on other occasions. The two live alone in the apartment.

Sure, the boy may block the traumatic event out from his conscious mind but the memory will still lurk somewhere in the unconscious and some believe that repressed memories can have adverse effects on a person or can cause psychological problems later in life.

The boy is 5. He will remember every bit of it.

Not necessarily. People can blank out unpleasant things quite readily.

The boy is 5. He will remember every bit of it. Poor kid...

Being under a lot of pressure is no excuse for trying to drown someone. Her job is not relevent. Everyone gets frustrated and angry sometimes but most know how to deal with it in a socially acceptable way and don't act out causing physical harm to another human being. This woman needs help...yes. Only people who are in great pain themselves inflict pain on others.

"freaked out and crazy"? SHe is a 25 yr old sex worker with a 5 yr old kid! I know this comment will be deleted, but give her a freaking break!

It sounds more as if she was freaked out and crazy rather than as if she really intended to murder the kid.

This is another concern linked with the population decline issue in Japan: Too many irresponsible people having kids and not enough responsible ones having kids.

...no, at least she did not kill anyone! She has a hard life... was under a lot of pressure. Hopefully she gets help! We do not know her situation or what stressors were influencing her judgement on this matter.

When the economy is down many people already on the edge get desperate.

-An Intervention is sometimes needed and it seems this woman was rather isolated = the police were her intervention and she was smart enough to ask for help before all was lost. Hopefully some of the money that the Gov is saving on cut-backs can be used to help these people that need help and get them on a solid career track with a future.

Getting sick of seeing children being assaulted by their own mother, the most loving one in the world (should be). What the hell is going in Japan these days?

The term sex worker is not used here. Health worker is more like it. Glad the kid is ok.

Definitely a cry for help. She called the police straight away and confessed what she'd done. Where are her own parents/support systems? Was the kid in childcare? I hope they both get the help they need.

I would believe that this was an attempted murder-suicide, but she couldn't go through with it and called the police in desperation.

This was a cry for help

Only possible explanation.

sorry... the mother did...

who called the police?

Just a bum about face plea for help. Hope she gets it.

This was a cry for help, glad to hear the little guy is in good condition.

Merry Christmas

but what kind of dumbass starts a crime, but doesnt finish it

I was thinking the same thing. I would guess most probarbly she is trying to seek some sympathy.

The woman probably realized that she'd gone over the edge and called the police to prevent herself from ever doing this again. At least she turned herself in rather than covering this up. Unfortunately, this sounds like her cry for help.

The previous story was about the number of suicides so far, followed by a story of another mother, trying to kill their child. These stories alone, are enough to push some, over the edge.

I don't really care what her occupation is, trying to drown your child is repulsive. I'm glad he didn't die. Maybe she called them because she knew they'd take him away. For his protection or for herself, who knows.

This may be the better news of the day. Trouble coping, she called out. A sex club worker.. we don't know the story (Kyodo -the no news co). Single mom trying to cope, not easy the best of times. Hope she gets support now? From where? If anyone has advice, might I ask that we share and see that those who may need it receive it.

WTF how does a parent hold their kid underwater to drown it, hell I cant even fathom the trauma this little guy went threw. Imagine seeing your mothers face taking the life out of you, not to mention on christmas eve.

Relieved to hear the boy is alright. What is up with women trying to kill their children lately? This is about the fourth case that's been reported in the last couple of months. It's really disturbing.

Either they shouldn't be having kids at all or they should be seeking support if they feel overwhelmed. Sure, being a parent is frustrating at time but there is no excuse for this. Hopefully this boy will be put into a good home.

Now im not for child abuse or murder, but what kind of dumbass starts a crime, but doesnt finish it, then calls the cops to tell them she did it. WOW. I feel sorry for the kid though. Oh well, your moms a whore, what kind of parenting do you expect?

Guilty conscious?

She was caught trying to drown her son after she called the police herself? What?
