I don't know what is sillier: The fact that one can be arrested a full two years after the fact, for speeding, or the fact that someone would actually call the police over a youtube video.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

It didnt say WHEN he uploaded the video - "and later uploaded"... The incident may have happened two years ago, but it doesnt state the time of upload.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

On behalf of the 99 percent: BAHAHA!

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Why take away his dental license for speeding?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Thos guy is so smart.... wait STUPID is a better word. Wait people.... there are so many incriminating videos on YouTube already posted but the police ONLY tries to nab the ones that might bring in money and attention. Why don't they ever nab the drifters, bozozoku and to mention all the video posted on Chinese websites?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Hahahaha Go Pro HD camera's are selling like hotcakes recently. There are some things you simply don't post on YouTube.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Hahahahhahah. What a idiot.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

wow - took them two years. just how many lamborginis are there in japan? in and around hiroshima?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"wow - took them two years."

Yeah, I would have guessed 3-4 years for them to figure it out.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

whizzed around the western city of Hiroshima at nearly 160 kilometers

So he owns a car which has a top speed in excess of 300 km/h and he posts videos on youtube doing as much as i can with my crappy 1.7 diesel? I'd be too embarrassed to post a video showing i could only do 160 on a Lamborghini.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The reason why this should not be legitimized is the massive potential for abuse.

You could make a similiar video, put it up somewhere claiming to be a certain person, then snitch and get that person arrested. And even if that person gets an innocent verdict in court, can you imagine how much trouble it would cause? Even if the person were just arrested, investigated and let go, it would cause that person so much trouble. Catching this person was not worth the precedent, the cost, or the potential trouble.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Oh.. the JT comments never disappoint. I would not say what he did was fine, but... let me pose this you you all. The speed limits we have now were made when we were all driving cars with crappy suspensions, drum brakes, no seat belts and hard rubber radial tires with steering and wheel alignment that were dubious right out of the factory. I had the cool chance to take an Audi R8 which is a $180,000 car out for a test drive a few weeks ago and wow....what an amazing machine. Let me tell you 160 km/h is very VERY easy in a car like that.

I'm just saying that my old 1968 VW bug was WAY WAY WAY more dangerous at 80km/h doing the speed limit than that Audi or Lamborghini at 160 km/h.

We don't really know what the road conditions were like other than a 60 km/h posted speed limit. And I'm sure that wasn't a sustained 160 klicks. Cars like that get up to that speed in seconds and with the braking systems and performance tires....can be back at 0 in a few seconds as well.

Most of you are hypocrites if you are even 10 km/h over the speed limit in your crappy k cars and beater sedans. I drive a LandCruiser and I drive it accordingly. A little thought and common sense people....Please?!?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Papasmurfinjapan worte..

What on earth is that supposed to mean? Are you saying he should be allowed to drive the car fast, because that is what it is designed to do? And how exactly do you drive a Land Cruiser designed for off-road use "accordingly" on the paved streets of Japan? Do you deliberately look for potholes and little puddles to drive your car through or do you just spend most of your time driving over railroad crossings for the fun of it?

Well, all things being equal...yes, a little faster. Maybe not that fast mind you. That really wasn't my point. My point was speed limits are totally arbitrary and pretty much meaningless in this day and age. Weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle conditions, drivers ability.... Sometimes under my criteria the posted speed limits are TOO fast and conversely more often than not, too slow.

As for my Landcruiser. It's a heavy duty machine and not one for street performance so I drive it ACCORDINGLY....which means around the posted speed limits because those speeds just happens to coincide with safe use of such a large, heavy yet powerful vehicle.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@ BPoint

I'm sorry, my intention is not to single you out, but I cannot follow your logic. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if cars were given different speed limits according to their motor size? Some cars doing 50, some 60, some 80 or more.. all on the same stretch of road? The purpose of speed limits is not just to slow people down to "safe" driving speeds, but to make sure everyone drives at roughly the same speed and avoid running into each other. The last thing we need on the road are hooligans who swerve in and out of traffic in their sports cars just because their cars are built to drive fast and their egos tell them they are above the law. It is reckless driving and endangers the lives of everyone else on the road. As someone else pointed out, if he wants to drive fast, he can go to a track, or at least drive it on the freeway.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

If he was driving a beat up ten years old Toyota Camry, nobody would've called and nobody cared. I guess police pursued the case because they can collect huge sum in fines. Somebody is jealous because he is driving a car that he could never own. What if you edit the film to make it real to look like your car is going 200km, could police nabb you with this bogus evidence?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@Nisegaijin

There is no place for snitches in this world.

No, what there is no place for in this world is people recklessly endangering other people's lives for the sake of their own entertainment. If you want to drive your super-powered sports car really fast, that's fine, but not on public roads; go to a track.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

He enjoys the sound of the engine? I wonder how he would enjoy the sound of an old lady or a child bouncing off the bonnet of his sports car while he is recklessly endangering the lives of innocent people. Take his license of him and crush his car! That is how hoons are treated in Australia.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Wish I had a Lamborghini

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Papasmurf,

Ya, you're not quite getting me. It's nothing to do with motor size, or egos, or hooligans or driving recklessly. It's all about common sense and judgement. This guy was driving too fast....that was never in dispute. I will argue that statistically old ladies driving way under the speed limit causing other drivers to take risks is as significant as guys in supercars driving well over the speed limit in the case of accidents.

Speed limits are arbitrary dated numbers. For the most part we know how fast to go and we really don't need a little metal sign every 5 kms to tell us. It's pretty sad and pathetic that we have them actually. Nobody questions it though. If you were to abolish speed limits tomorrow...I know I wouldn't drive any faster or slower and I'm sure that's the case for the majority. Let the cops decide who the ego maniacal reckless hooligans are.....it might end up being grandpa putting along at 20km/h holding up a road full of pissed off drivers behind him.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Papasmurf:

Actually Italy had a system, where the maximum allowed speed of the car depends on the car classification, e.g. sportscars could go a little faster on the highway there (150 instead of 130)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

If he's wearing a matching Lambo-Jacket they ought to give him life. Mid-life crisis exec, tacky as he wants to be. Ugh.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I remember this incident, and the video was all over the net around six months ago, The driver was a dentist and he was fired from his job and "struck off" the Japanese registered dentist list for life, which means he cannot practice dentistry ever again in Japan. He's paid a pretty steep price for his "thrill" already and it looks like there will be at least a heavy fine to come .....

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I am sorry, but an amateur video should not be an evidence for speeding conviction. Is there enough proof that the video was not fabricated in any way? I am sorry, you are the same bunch of people that scream that Japan's justice system is corrupt, well, here is a classic example, is it not! He turns out to be guilty and will not have a chance to be proven innocent.

In reality speeding conviction should only be reached by use of authorized equipment monitored and reported by authorized police personnel.

Finally, the low life bottom feeding snitch that called the cops, what did he get in return? I hope that his private info gets leaked and he would get what he deserved. There is no place for snitches in this world.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

It's looking like my earlier post was a similar incident but in a ferrari, as pointed out by "Probie" ... Thanks :) ... These guys should have been born as peacocks!! ..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have nothing against people owning sports cars or even driving them fast on the highway, as long as they drive at a speed suited to the type of road.

But...I've seen these morons blasting along between traffic lights in Tokyo, breaking the speed limit just to make a "nice noise". They aren't cool - they are a menace, simply inadequate people with more money than sense. Second only to pond-life wannabe pimps driving oversized white chromed SUVs and Hummers. Morons, all of them!

Whoever shopped this twit - well done. He was stupid enough to advertise his law breaking, so he deserves the penalty.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Sell the car and give him a bicycle. It should not affect his legions of fans because he's a cool dude, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's what trials are for. You do not need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to arrest someone. Gee not sure how you tie video of someone breaking the law, amateur or not that is tied to the person somehow "corruption" on the part of police. Corruption would be the police fabricating the entire video then nailing the guy, which isn't the case.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Basically the driver did the equivalent of passing by a police car on a Japanese highway cruising at 100 km/h.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree with Niseigaijin, I don't believe the police can fine you based on a YOUTUBE video alone, it requires the person to admit that he speeded as such. If I were him, I would have said he rigged the speedometer up as a joke. There are tons of things on YOUTUBE that you are not sure if it is real or not and with technology these days, anything can be fabricated.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No special effects defense? I can post a youtube video saying the buses around here are going 999kpm and make it look real. Unless the cops have other evidence, this would be another example of ridiculous court practices in Japan.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I don't get it. Don't those traffic cameras catch those speeders doing 160 km per hr.? I was caught going just 90 in a 50 and had to spend all day in traffic school besides the huge fine. Maybe going 160 is faster than the camera can catch you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It isn't what you drive, but how you drive that counts.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

At a guess Japan won't be banning youtube anytime soon. They need it to catch their criminals.(Well, from people telling them about it first)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

FAIL!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

papasmurfinjapan,

Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if cars were given different speed limits according to their motor size.

Which is essetially how some parts of the German Autobahn works. Three lanes. Slowest to the right. Faster in the middle and sometimes damn speedy to the left. That being said, (and considering Japan DOESN'T have this system) if there are speedlimits, just follow them.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Operating ANY vehicle at twice the speed limit is dangerous whether the vehicle is a "K-car" or a high performance vehicle. Why? (this is important so pay attention) Out of ALL the cars using that road, YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE MOVING AT THAT SPEED. Great, your Lambourghini can handle hairpin turns at 60 KPH and your high-performance suspension and brakes allow pinpoint control of your car... NOBODY ELSE AROUND YOU HAS THAT. People tooling along at 80 KPH are not expecting someone to be closing from behind at a rate of 80 KPH. Your sudden appearance in their rear-view mirror can startle them into panicking and losing control of their vehicle. People with the mental capacities of a child like this driver (and apparently like some of the JT posters) never think of that. Their defense is that, "I wasn't reckless! I was always in control of the vehicle!" Their defense is worthless because it ignores everyone else who was on that road and was affected by such dangerous behavior.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Fadamor, I agree that driving at 60kph in a 30kph limit school zone at 8:15am in any vehicle is extremely dangerous. Given the book - I'd throw it at them. However, you'll have a hard time convincing me (or some "of the JT posters") that driving at 120kph on a deserted 60kph limited multi-lane toll road in the middle of the night is even vaguely risky.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

MiuraAnjin.... forget it pal....some of these guys are just not going to "get it".

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Papasmurf:

I understand your idea about traffic safety and support it. I just wanted to comment on your sentence:

Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if cars were given different speed limits according to their motor size?

And ... actually Japan wants to introduce new super-mini compact cars, which will have a different speed limit ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Just an update... they ran this story in the Sydney Morning Herald today, complete with youtube video

http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/man-arrested-after-filming-himself-speeding-20120713-21zme.html

It seems he actually WAS on the expressway. However, his joyride was actually inside a curving tunnel, which makes him even more of an idiot than I originally thought.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Disillusioned

Take his license of him and crush his car! That is how hoons are treated in Australia.

Happens to some but not often enough as far as I'm concerned. 100% support your idea of getting it implemented in Japan too.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

From now on, new division at the police dept to monitor video footages on self- declared speeding. Manipulation could take place on video images, sounded a bit easy to use it as evidence for accusing someone of speed violation ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is this the same guy as before?

The article has expired, but I remember it was something similar, and around the same area, I think.

http://www.japantoday.com/category/crime/view/speeding-ferrari-driver-caught-after-youtube-post

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

1 the tattle tale probably knew the guy. 2 said tattle tale was probably jealous rich guy wouldn't let him drive the Lambo. 3 rich guy probably doesn't really care because he is rich, drives a Lambo and did I mention rich. Not condoning his actions just stating my opinion.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

So this idiot fool just likes the sound of the engine and speed?? How about the sound of engine, speed, all crashing into a parked car? Truck? etc..Some people have more $$$ than they have common sense! I hope he enjoys the sound of SILENCE behind bars!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

@nisegaijin

He turns out to be guilty and will not have a chance to be proven innocent.

What do you base that assertion on? The guy admitted what he did. There's video evidence. How much more do you need?

And by the way, if he'd run over and killed one of your friends or relatives, would you be quite so anti-snitch? I doubt it.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Is this the same guy as before?

No, different guy, but a tosser all the same.

I drive a LandCruiser and I drive it accordingly.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

and now...he can enjoy the sound of imates snoring in the cell next to him.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Miuraanjin

I'm wrong, am I? Tell that to the cops when they pull you over for speeding. It doesn't matter what you think, or what I think for that matter. What matters is there are traffic las and we are expected to obey them. Just because you drive a fast car or think you're an excellent driver doesn't mean you are exempt from the law. I'm not talking about going 10-15km over the limit, this guy was doing 100 over the limit.

Sure, if Japan decides to widen all it's roads and create separate lanes for people travelling at different speeds, ala the autobahn, then great, I'm all for that. I'd love to be able to drive my car at over 160km/h if I had the chance. But as things stand right now, there is no excuse for this wanker speeding around the streets, regardless of the time of day or whether he thinks it was safe or not. what surprises me most is there are people like you defending him.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@electric2004 and others

I don't think you are getting my point. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I have no problem with cars going fast, as long as the law stipulates it is okay to do so. Germany's autobahn and Italy's highways are not really relevant here, unless we are talking about this guy doing 160 on the expressway (which though not "okay" is certainly a lot safer than doing 160 on normal streets).

But he wasn't on the expressway, he was on a normal road.

There is no excuse for going 100 over the limit on a normal road, no matter how deserted or safe the driver may "think" it may be. I admit half-blind, half-deaf grandpa driving at 30km/h is probably even more dangerous than Mr Lambo doing 160 on normal roads, but that is not the point. The point is there are laws that have been put in place for our safety, and if you have a driver's license, you are expected to obey them. If a person's ego tells them they don't need to obey the law, then they shouldn't be driving at all.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

what about statue of limitations? In any court of law this could be argued out of the court a zillion different ways unless he shows his face on the camera or just openly admits it was him behind the wheel in sworn court of law.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Sorry Papsmurf, but you are wrong. In one nation on Earth (it is between Canada and Mexico) speed "limits" have become speed "defined". The rest of the world does not work that way. BPoint is perfectly correct - there is nothing wrong with driving at 60 in an 80 limit - where this is not the case there is a minimum speed limit posted. Indeed in inclement weather I would hope that most would drive at 60 in an 80 zone. Interestingly Japanese highway patrol officers will readily admit that it is also safe to do 120 in an 80 limited area most of the time. This is why they rarely pull anyone over for doing such speeds and most speed cameras are set to trigger at limit + 40kph. Indeed, a highway camera that I can see from my house triggers at 120 - in a 60kph limit. Which brings us back to this case. I do not know the details but it is possible that the driver was on a three lane highway, in the middle of the night, when he managed to clock 160 in a 60 limit. To all the posters who have decided this guy is guilty of wantonly endangering lives (Think Of The Children!!!) without possession of all the facts - a fulfilling career in the Japanese prosecution office awaits. Good luck to you.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Jerk

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Stupid and reckless fool. Could have killed a kid in another car. His car should be scrapped by the government and cut up into small pieces.
