Is this article somehow, indirectly, trying to pin this on South Korea? /Confused

Plastics are ideal for shotgun shells because shotguns are fired at lower velocity than rifles, so unlike rifles a full metal jacket is not needed.

Also if metal casings were used for shotgun shells it would increase the weight of the ammunition considering that shotgun slugs are much bigger than rifle cartridges.

Spin, spin, spin.

his mother made a "huge donation"

His mother made a donation and he is upset about that. It was her choice wasn't it? Or was she forced to make a donation? If she wasn't forced and did it out of free will, why is he upset? It was her that decided to make a donation. What was she expecting to get back for making this donation? A ticket to heaven? From all available information, I still do not understand why he is upset!!! A donation is a donation, one never gets anything back except a thank you!!!

For someone who is facing a possible death sentence, he sure has been chatty.

For someone who is facing a possible death sentence

The chances of him getting the death penalty are slim to none.

Even though he did kill a prominent public figure, Japanese law doesn’t work that way. He’ll most likely get 25 yrs to life.

Besides the fact that his mother can anything she wants with her money.......there is something wrong though.....if he was so upset with the UC, why didn't kill one of the leader/managers of the church?!? I think that religion here has nothing to do with the crime committed .....it must be political as Abe san was against the war in Ukraine against Putin, and his opponents are trying to build a real army changing the Japanese constitution and Abe was against that.

Does anyone who talks about "the mother choosing to donate money" have an idea how religious cults work?

Something is off.

To build a blackpowder base canon (the homemade device is more akin to canon rather than shotgun), one need: propellant (blackpowder), projectiles, device (the homemade metal tubing), and trigger device (probably using electric ignition).

Basically, the procedure is

First, insert the propellant to the end of tube.

Second, insert the projectiles to the end of tube, sitting on top of the propellant.

Three, insert stopper (can be some kind of paper, or cotton, to prevent all the ingredients from falling out).

For an experimental homemade weapon, one has to do a lot of trial and error to find the right amount of propellant and suitable projectiles, to achieve accuracy and finding the lethal distance of usage.

Can a regular person just researched all this within a couple of months, and

Able to build these experimental weapon to a functional capacity and familiarize himself with them;

Possess the familiarity of the tactical movement to overcome loud noises and chaos;

doing all these alone without any help and training?

 and his opponents are trying to build a real army changing the Japanese constitution and Abe was against that.

Ahh no Abe was totally for changing the constitution

"Prime Minister Abe had previously declared his goal of enforcing a reformed Constitution"

I have read in an article in another Japanese newspaper, that ethnic Koreans in Japan in some area's have been alerted to hate crimes against them, due to a lot of hate messages and fake news on social media.

@ Chris the murdered made several home made guns. A previous article said that the murderer tested the guns many times near the church to perfect his accuracy once he got what he wanted he made his plan.

@Chris

With the information on the internet, it is frighteningly easy to make explosives and improvised guns.

Black powder propellant can be made with very simple and available ingredients, that I won’t mention here.

I wouldn’t even say it requires months. A determined individual with some basic DIY skills could make a similar weapon in days.

Given the proximity from which Abe was shot (3m), accuracy wouldn’t even be much of an issue with multiple pellets in each barrel.

How is his mother's poor decisions & poor life choices an excuse to murder someone?

It's not, that's why he's in jail.

"Japanese law doesn’t work that way."

Another non-Japanese here trying to Japan-explain Japan to the rest of us.

He getting the death penalty - he stalked and murdered an ex-Prime Minister/LDP leader and is a domestic terrorist engaged in building bombs and zip guns.

The chances of him getting the death penalty are slim to none.

By Japanese law, the death penalty is reserved for murders of two or more people, unless there are extenuating circumstances that justify the death penalty for one murder. I could see the courts determining a political assassination to be extenuating circumstances, but I don't know what precedent is for these types of murders.

These shotgun type shells sound like the types used by farmers to scare birds away in firing mechanism not used in actual shotguns.

How many times do they have to mention Japan's longest serving PM ?

And what is the punishment and how long he'll be sentenced. Hope for life.

My hope is for life imprisonment up to the point where his neck is snapped like a dry twig.

The killer is evil but as most of the japanese he is not stupid as not to be capable of learning by himself about the subject of doing homemade guns. The personal security team are the ones to roll thr heads. The church is just like any other organization working with tactics and predatory goals, saying realestate realtors, alarm sellers, insurance etc, but more likely post the border of legality and into crime for sure

Yamagami did a very bad heinous thing by killing another human being, but so far things seem to be playing out precisely in line with his motives - assuming he wants to cause damage to this unification church. They have got a damn bad rep now if they didn’t before - the tv shows have been reporting about how lawyers of victim groups have been refuting the claims made by the Japan representative in his presser yesterday.

Whether this is exactly how Yamagami thought killing Abe might achieve his objectives, I don’t know, but he seems to be drawing exactly the sort of attention to their outfit that he hoped.

Still, he’ll be going to prison, I think. Apparently some mental conditions might get him off, but this guy doesn’t seem like a dopey to me.

He may get about 25years but if public opinion sway the sentencing asit is likely to then life without parole. In Japan you only get the death penalty if you kill multiple people.
