why I haven't done a Line in 25+ years and even then it was total crap

LINE was created in 2011 as an internal company communication network so people could talk to each other in the aftermath of the earthquake.

I haven't got any such messages in a while. I would make your id private and disable access to phonebook if you haven't already.

At least LINE itself wasn't hacked. Phishing occurs at a regular basis across all platforms.
