One thing I notice lately is the growing amount of spam going in Line. I'm getting a bunch of messages from random women I have never met or would ever meet living in the middle of nowhere.

Lucky you! I haven't experienced anything similar but I have very few line friends. I think you might want to check if your user is ID is public or not in the Profile settings?

What I saw on the TV news was that people have been getting messages from their friends and colleagues via Line asking them if they can duck into a convenience store and buy them an emoney card and send them the code."Pay you back tomorrow." And it's small amounts like 3000 or 4000 yen so people do it without giving it much thought.

Then when they see their friend and expect to be paid back, the friend has no idea about it, but soon discovers the same message went to EVERY single person in their address book. and large numbers of them are now expecting to be paid back.
