without details, I won't judge, my wife got a ticket for making a right turn at an intersection where there was this sign that you can't make right turns from Mon to Fri between 8 to 10 am and 4 to 6 pm. Who the hell can read that while driving??

Okay , he paid the fine but was his license endorsed and did he have to take the one day reeducation lecture ?

Cosmos, you really believe that in Japan, or any other country, you get your license suspended for an illegal turn?

"received a traffic ticket for making an illegal right turn while off "

probably was looking for his glass pipe.

Sounds to me like Cosmos1 speaks from experience. An endorsement over a piddling infraction will result in a fine, that dog awful lecture by a clueless fossil (in my case the old fart told us all not to worry about seatbelts in the rear except for on expressways), and higher insurance premiums. My crime was not stopping at a meaningless (to me) stop line (一時停止) some distance back from the actual junction. It was one of the annual quota traps, and 6 of Chiba's finest (sic) were all over me - bicycles and all - in a flash.

I wonder if the cop who stopped and ticketed him has harmed his promotion prospects?

Sounds like a seppuku job to me. Oh, the shame.

People make mistakes.

Police are people too, this wouldn't be the first office of the law running foul of the rules they are meant to enforce.

I'm just glad that no one was hurt and it wasn't a more serious infraction.

It's budget time. Most of the time police aren't around. They don't care. They have their quotas to fulfill. Do it as fast as possible and move on. Who's going to pay for the expensive motorcycles, the insurance, etc.? Value of points on the license? Its a number. A goal. Compare year-to-year. No sincerity there. If there were real concern, they be there all the time checking for safety, not illegal moves.

It's the first time i see them revealing the real name of the police officer that commits an infraction.

You can be ticketed for making u turns or turns on lanes where straight arrows are clearly marked, and also for not making the turns (driving straight) from lanes marked with a key or right turn arrow.

Dont drive in the right lane on the highway and brake check the car behind you, not only is it dumb it is also illegal, and if you are a police man make sure not to make illegal turns while not in uniform. Also when riding your bicycle obey the god damn road rules same as everyone else has to . Thank you very muchie! Now move along , nothing much to see here.

He might be talking about the course you have to take if you don't have a "gold" license the next time you renew.

Today, whilst driving a car ran the red light against me on my right turn, later I saw a motorcycle crushed under a truck-it’s a jungle out there....

If the flange ever decide to subcontact to catch amber gamblers, I've got my camera ready. Running red lights is a national sport here.

Took the comment right from my mind! My crime was a rolling stop before I merged unto a busy road. There were no cars for at least 600m and some cops pulled out from the bushes and had to be driving at least 90km (on a 50km road) to catch up to me. ¥27,000 and 4 hours in a room with many other people and further humiliated by having to stand outside holding a flag about driving while on your phone.
