Long-haired woman in long dress sought over purse-snatching spree in Tokyo

Police are looking for a woman who is suspected of being involved in 20 purse-snatching cases in Tokyo. In all cases, the suspect has been described as being a young woman with long hair and wearing a long one-piece dress, police said.

In the latest incident, which occurred at around 2 p.m. Friday in Tokyo's Suginami Ward, a woman in her 60s was walking along the sidewalk when suddenly a young woman on a bike rode up behind her and attempted to steal her bag, Fuji TV reported. However, the woman was holding onto her bag securely under her right arm, and the would-be thief wasn't able to grab it, and fled from the scene.

According to Tokyo metropolitan police, there have been 20 similar cases since Aug 11 in Suginami and neighboring wards. In all cases, the suspect fits the description of the woman involved in the most recent case.

Well, it seems that the purse snatcher was clever enough to wear the most non-descript and general disguise possible. Perhaps, if he/she continues the spree, they'll stumble over during the getaway wearing that one piece.

She must be the first woman in Japan with a long dress and long hair.

Bags snatching in Japan? Wow!

Great description! They'll find her tomorrow, because no other woman in Japan has long hair and wears a long one piece dress.

Strange... I would think a long one-piece dress is not the best choice of clothing to get away quickly. But what do I know about pickpocketing.

"...the suspect has been described as being a young woman with long hair and wearing a long one-piece dress, police said."

Well that narrows it down to 99.9% of the female population in all of Japan.

Keep your eyes open everyone for someone matching that description and maybe - just maybe - we'll catch her before her next theft.

Probably she need some cash for her Pachinko time ..

With this detailed description, I am sure they will find her in no time. Too bad if its a man who takes off the wig and wears slacks most of the time.

@daniel, not so harmless at all. Might be a jump off to bigger crimes. And what if the victim lost her balance and fell on the ground head first?

Extreme criminals, at least harmless.

I wouldn't have thought a long dress was the best chosen attire if your means of attack and escape was a bicycle.

@Mexicano

a woman in her 60s was walking along the sidewalk when suddenly a young woman on a bike rode up behind her and attempted to steal her bag

Could be a dude though

I just wonder if it REALLY IS A WOMAN!! It could be some MAN, with a WIG and a WOMAN'S DRESS, pretending to be a 60 year old woman, but really the criminal is a smarter than average criminal.
