An employee of a Mainichi newspaper distributor was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault after allegedly attacking a customer. According to police, Yukio Nakashige, 29, went over to the customer’s house in Yamaguchi City at around 5.20 p.m. Wednesday to collect unpaid subscription fees. He rang the doorbell and knocked on the front door and after some time, the 38 year-old male customer opened the door, and was punched several times in the face. The customer paid the fees and called the police.
A spokesperson for the Mainichi said: “We deeply regret the actions of one of our customer service representatives. Normally, we keep them under close supervision.”

She didn't want to pay for a paper without Wai-Wai. Ironically, this might have made the Wai-wai.

Message to all Mainichi subscribers you better pay up. I reccomend NHK hiring some of these guys, they might have a better chance of getting paid.

Yeah, I used to read Mainichi online too, til they got rid of Wai Wai. No reason to go back there now.

hey...have you seen the majority of these newspaper delivery guys?? They seriously look seedy..even worse than taxi-drivers.A lot look as though they have had dubious employers in the past.

What a Japanese story - if I had been the victim of such an assault, I think the calling the police would come long before paying the money I owed....

"Generally keep them under close supervision." It goes to show you can't turn your back for a second.
I made a deal with Maebashi Electric to put a kamban in front of my place to be paid with electric bill for a year. About 2 months later a little, kinky-haired, Yakuza-looking dude showed up and demanded the remainder. I told him to get the hell out, which he did. I never did finish paying it. He said he was the contractor who installed the komban.
Got no more bloated bills from EC. Was willing to pay as per contract. Sign stayed there, working, for 5 or 6 years till I left Japan. I was a 6 foot, 170 pound gaijin.
I wonder how big the victim here was.

They won't show it due to their strict censorship policy!!!!!!!!!!! The newspaper will have to pay the subscriber lots of money! BEWARE of your delivery-person several have been arrested for murder. If you have children get the paper on-line.

Weird, the story doesn't appear on their English language website.

He was very lucky that customer wasn't from the 'Sumo' club. If he came on my door this way little scum, I'll will give you a backet of boiled water over your head. He was like this time, but if he try again, he could perhaps go under six feet.

LOL, I used to read Mainichi online before their major freak out. Firing most of the staff because of stories a about Japanese culture's dirty little secrets. This is another stain on thier shiny new image.
Samuraiiki
Not enough Mainichi, you need to keep them on a leash.
