Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the apartment of a man who was picked up drunk on a road Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward on Monday night.

Police said they received a call at around 9:30 p.m. Monday, saying that a man was lying on the road, Fuji TV reported. Police said the man, who is in his 80s, was drunk when they found him. The man said something about his son being at home. As police were taking him home, the man fell down, injuring his head and lost consciousness. He was taken to hospital and his condition is not life-threatening, police said.

After taking him to hospital, police then visited his apartment on the 5th floor of a condominium in Kohinata, where they discovered a male corpse inside, lying on a futon with his upper body unclothed. While there were no visible signs of external injuries, police said the corpse was already decomposing.

Police said they will wait for the man to recover from his injury before questioning him further on a possible charge of abandoning a corpse.

Japan is big on abandoning corpses and living with dead bodies. On what grounds though, did the police search or enter the apartment.?

Thetoleratedone, probably to inform the son that his father was drunk, injured, and in the hospital. Upon receiving no answer at the door, but ‘knowing’ the son was home, they looked inside.

My questiojn, though, is why he fell down while being taken home by the police. Were they making him walk unassisted?

Have you ever attempted to assist a drunken, uncooperative and most likely resisting individual?

Thetoleratedone- the smell. It's obvious that there is a decomposing human corpse.

i can only comment on personal experience, and wasn’t drunk at the time, but when a group of police are together and nobody can see, people fall down. Still have injuries, but I’m a foreigner so maybe my experience is special.

i hope the family of the corpse can recover.

I once watched two policemen guiding an extremely drunk man who could hardly stand up. They didn't touch him, but positioned themselves such that he had to stagger in the desired direction. The man could easily have fallen down without any "help" from the police. Perhaps the police prefer not to touch drunks in case they become aggressive, or maybe they don't want people being sick all over them.

He didn't abandon the his son body. He just leave his son as he found.
