Police in Sakae, Aichi Prefecture, said Monday they are investigating the death of a male patient in his 80s who was found dead in his hospital room, with toilet paper protruding from his mouth and nose.

According to police, at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, a male nurse at Toyoake Sakae Hospital found the patient in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. He was pronounced dead soon after.

The elderly patient was in a ward with seven other patients on the fourth floor. The man was admitted as a patient in February 2015.

The male nurse, who entered the hospital room to change the man’s diaper, told police he found him lying on a futon with none of his clothing disheveled. The man was last seen alive at around 7 p.m. Saturday when another nurse changed his diaper.

In the States you can't call it a diaper because doing so is embarrassing to the patient. it's a brief.

Yikes. So much for being safe.

RIP.

No one checked on the patient for ten and a half hours. Absolutely shocking. Very poor care.

We all know toilet paper is not to be used on your face.

Something suspicious with this.

This could be a case of suicide, He may have stuffed the toilet paper into his own mouth & nose.

Chainged his diaper at 7PM Saturday, and went again to change it at 5:30PM Sunday - almost 24 hours on one diaper.  Way too long...

Makes me sad for the elderly. We all eventually get there if we live long enough.
