The Tachikawa branch of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office is expected to announce early next week that a 27-year-old man, accused of killing nine people in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture, is mentally fit to stand trial, sources close to the case said Friday.
The psychiatric evaluation took about five months, Fuji TV reported.
Takahiro Shiraishi has admitted to killing and dismembering nine people, ranging in age between 15 and 26, at his apartment in Zama, between August and October of 2017. He was served an arrest warrant for each victim.
Police said Shiraishi responded to people who expressed suicidal thoughts on the internet and lured them to his apartment.

"Mentally fit to strand trial," not just mentally fit. He is mentally fit in the sense that he didn't believe his victims were rabid raccoons sent by the devil to destroy him. He was mentally fit enough to take advantage of depressed people to satisfy his rather perverse cravings.

He will likely prove to be mentally fit enough to hang by the neck until he is dead too.
