Man accused of scalding baby son with boiling water

A 33-year-old man in Osaka has been arrested for allegedly scalding his one-month-old son with boiling water, police said Wednesday.

According to police, on Nov 6 at around 9:30 p.m., Hisayoshi Genno, a security guard living in Toyonaka, doused his baby son with boiling water in the shower, causing serious burns to his lower back and groin, NTV reported. Afterward, Genno -- who lives with his 25-year-old girlfriend, son and daughter -- took the baby to a local family doctor, but the child's injuries were so severe, he was transferred to a hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit.

One local resident was quoted by NTV as saying that he often saw Genno walking hand in hand with his daughter and that he seemed to like children. However, other residents in the apartment block in which the family live said that recently the man would often shout at children playing outside and tell them to be quiet.

People who abuse kids or pets have some serious damage already. I hate these selfish abusers.

Is Naruhodo for real or just a parody of a Japanese man?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Water that hot should not even come out of the spigot. I once lived in an apartment that got a new water heater. I asked the guy to turn the heat down because it came out so hot, I would have to mix it with cold water every single time I got hot water or get burnt. He said he couldn't do it. I took the cover off myself later and darned if there no adjustment switches. Just crazy!

If any of you have small children, I advise you to get that water heater turned down if possible. It should never come out scalding. Its dangerous and a waste of power or gas besides. It may well be that he did not intend to scald his son, but was not thinking out of frustration. Regardless, this would not have even been physically possible if only the people who make and install these water heaters limited the things. You want boiling water? Put a pot on the stove!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

i hope this jerk gets his absolute comeuppance!!

you d NOT scald a child with boiling water!!

There's a world of difference between intentionally burning a baby with boiling water and mistakenly spraying hot water on him or her.

Personally I'd give this guy the benefit of the doubt as it seems that he was just struggling and fumbling while trying to take care of his kids. It happens to the best of us. I bet he's going through hell with regret about his mistake and the pain he caused his kid.

If anybody should be hanged it's the clown who initially wrote this misleading and incomplete article.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Hard to judge someone that scalds his baby when no more details over the scoulding are count. Did he put the children at force in the shower in hot water? As a punishment or just because he needs to bath the child? Yes, he was reported to police for scald the child, but it could be an accident (because of the lack of experience bathing children) or because he wants to do something bad...

If he wants to do the last, why he took the child to the hospital? Normally an abusive father leave the children suffering until the mother or another person learns over the aggression.

Is hard to judge a book by the cover without reading it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why bringing these young lives to the world if one is not well prepared ? The J govt, if it is serious about the issue of shrinking population, should 'take over' the right of raising kids with more appropriate care from unfit parents ?

My nephew was scolded with hot water as his grandmother (not my mom) was transferring hot water from the stove to the bath. He accidentally stood in front of her................... but don't judge so harshly, the article is quite thin for a hangin'.

@NetteMarie

He is a one-month-old baby who stays there where he is put. He has no place anywhere, where he can be injured especially scolded. Sorry, I won't accept any other explanation. A one-month-old baby cannot be left alone at any other places than her bed. Wherever he is, he cannot be approached with boiling hot water or any harmful tools in his supervisor's hands. He has no place in the shower but in a baby bath tub. First prepare the bathing water, check the temperature and then bring the baby. That's the way to do it.

Sometimes I go through the room carrying hot boiling water in a big pot, or a knife or a sharp tool and before doing that I lead my dog out to the other room and shut her in first. And it's just a dog. Even she is a well disciplined obedient dog who understands every words and order and does what I say, yet, when I do anything that can hurt her, I remove her first from beside me.

@The Munya Times

No reason to feel like that if you are different. Humans are all different, animals are more or less the same. You can study a single tiger's behavior for a year and can write a book about tigers. Not so for humans. We are all different and capable of changes, a unique chance to take on, therefore we are gifted creatures. Just take your chances, that's what life for, that's the purpose of human life, self realization.

Thank you for your kind and gentle words, I feel a little better now....still, child abuse cases make me so depressed, to the point of losing the appetite. I'm currently dealing with the pain.

If the family couldn't pay their gas bill and he had to bring hot water to the bath, it could just be negligence. I would hope so, but don't judge so harshly, the article is quite thin for a hangin'.

@BlueWitch

If it was indeed true and that this man did this on purpose

I think he did it on purpose, it is not the first time children are are scolded with boiling water in order to discipline them.

Babies can drive their parents and baby sitters mad with their relentless 110 decibel screaming crying and I might even understand that some parents, especially mothers with postnatal depression lose their mind and slam their babies to the bed or shake them . I don't approve it or forgive them, though.

But the article said "with boiling water" thus he had to prepare it, bring the water into boil that gave him time enough to calm down. This was premeditated and cannot be an accident as any sane and responsible person keeps the baby away when doing dangerous things, such as cooking, boiling water , smoking etc.

I feel ashamed and even cursed to be human.

No reason to feel like that if you are different. Humans are all different, animals are more or less the same. You can study a single tiger's behavior for a year and can write a book about tigers. Not so for humans. We are all different and capable of changes, a unique chance to take on, therefore we are gifted creatures. @The Munya Times

If it's true I say the same thing should be done to him. And when he recovers, do it again, and when he recovers, repeat.

Doing so, what would be the difference between us and him. It would make us the same criminal what he is. Violence triggers more violence and goes around in circles not even mentioning that he would feel his suffering entitles him to make others suffer. He would become a fast learner, would hate fellow humans more and this action of ours would remove all his tiny remorse if he has any at all and with such a degraded intellectual power and destroyed emotional state that he has, he couldn't understand anything, anyway. All we could achieve that revenge would become our everyday standard. This is not the solution.

Suffering doesn't deter nor teaches how to do things better, it just disables people doing more bad things, supposing it destroys them enough from acting at all.

The only solution is to elevate humankind to a higher level. At least to the level of the animals as presently humans are the most potential killers and the only one kind that kills beyond necessity and most sadistic creatures on planet earth.

Animals don't kill without reason or with their stomach full, and torture and sadism is unknown in the world of animals.

EXACTLY!!! If it was indeed true and that this man did this on purpose, I hope he pays for the pain and tears he caused to this little baby for the rest of his pathetic subhuman life. Moreover, It's becaue of "attrocities" like these child-torture/abuse cases that makes me reconsider how I feel about bein HUMAN. Knowing what humans are capable of, I feel ashamed and even cursed to be human. I wish I was born something else. Not HUMAN!!! How frustrating really.

YubaruNOV. 10, 2011 - 07:04AM JST Tell that to all the cops here getting in trouble too! If one thinks about it a bit more I would say that part of the problem comes from the type of jobs that they have, control, and blind obedience, from the lemmings. They get full of themselves thinking that they should be listened to no matter what the circumstance or who the person is.

True very true, some of these people holding such positions get full of themselves sometimes. Totally agree.

Smartacus Thanks for correcting me on the spelling, I was just typing typing with a hot head thinking about all this.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

ok willib you hold back with that old testament and watch me! IF this guy did it on purpose, well all i can say is sick! sick! twisted evil bastard! how dare you do this to a BABY! to an INNOCENT little CHILD!! ok?? Howz that??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

From the article it is not clear at all if this was intended cruelty or simply an accident. I have been in ofuros where you got scalding hot water if you were not careful, and babies are awfully easily damaged.

I am holding my old testamentarial fury until the truth comes out.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

From my observation of japanese men and their relationship with their children, the majority havent the slightest clue as to how to take care of a child. Maybe because they lack motherly instinct and culturally havent evolved from caveman syndrome. Not all, but the majority of j men still think they live in feudal times.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@blue and yasu, Speaking from my own experience, i try to make sense of things. Kids usually do cruel things. My dad showed me how to use a sling shot and killed birds. I stsrted shooting birds down. After a few dead birds, i felt horriblw watching them suffer. But i enjoyed using a slingshot at moving targets. After s few more dead birds i couldnt do it anymore, so i stopped. But graduated to bb guns. Problem was repeated and gave that up. My explanation , its human nature to want to kill or hunt for boys/men. Maybe that could explain why kids do cruel things and then grow out of it when they feel bad about it. That was the reason for me.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

This article is unclear. Did he;

A. Boil water in advanced and bring it into the shower with the intent of burning his son.

or

B. He turned on the hot water in the shower (~40 degrees) and mistakenly spray his son with it?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

As whiskeysour said - we need more information here.

My baby is a month old and we put boiling water in the bath to get it up to over 40 degrees C which is what the baby likes. It could be carelessness if the kettle fell on the baby - rather than him being malicious.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder a bit about this story. Maybe he turned the temperature too high (the actual temperature is not given in degrees, right?) because he didn't understand that children are more sensitive to heat than Japanese adults who have gotten used to steaming in hot water during theri lives. After all, he took the child to the doctor, so maybe he really is just a bit stupid instead of evil? This could explain why he shouts at children which is obviously useless to calm them down.

It reminds me of my first OFURO in a Japanese home. It took my skin about 7 hours to return to its normal colour (I looked a bit like a KANI) since I didn't want to complain about the water temperature (I almost collapsed due to the heat) as I feared my hosts would consider it rude. So maybe he just made the biggest mistake of his life and horribly regrets.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Oh my god what a horrible thing to do to a person, let alone a baby. I can't even imagine the agony and the fear, and now the child is going to probably grow up being disfigured, among other things. This man should be locked up for the maximum, and hopefully beaten regularly while in prison. I don't like to say such things (the beating part), but that's how I feel upon reading this.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

"doused his baby son with boiling water in the shower"

What idiot would state such a thing!? How can you tell if the infant is doused!? Let me have this SOB!! I'll show him what boiling is!! Mental....totally MENTAL!!!!! Hope the baby recovers!! Gosh, this is SO upsetting!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a piece of smegma this guy is

Blue witch...you are funny.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

There was no reason given for the attack. Sadly, too many people should not be parents. Who, in their right mind would knowingly injure a one month old baby? And, why? Hopefully, although doubtfully, this nut will get the counseling he desperately needs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can you explain why you think (by your own admission) Japanese men would want to inflict pain on even a wild animal? Because I don't get it.

Possibly compensating for a lack of something (ie size) - probably just like this evil monster. I just hope he is jailed for at least 10 years, all the other prisoners are made well aware that he is a child abuser - and he is banned from ever contacting any of these children. Hope the poor little baby gets better.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Was he drunk ? Did he make a mistake and turned the water high ?

I need more information. He's careless !!!!!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I wonder if if was a mistake? It seems like an odd place to bring a boiling pot of water... And babys' skin is really delicate and maybe he just had the hot water on too hot and didn't realize it until it was too late. I really hope it was just out of stupidity instead of a lack of humanity...but either way, I wish a quick and full recovery for the little one in the hospital.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This poor little baby will have scars for the rest of his life.

Despicable.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

naruhodo, while I am trying to understand what you wrote I think it's rather crass to equate the manner in which a human treats another human with that of a dog. I wouldn't treat my worst enemy nor their dog either for that matter in the way this guy did his own child.

Japanese men do not have a corner on the market on closeness or lack of with their offspring. And generalizing about the issue doesn't do much good for anyone else either. THIS dude is wacked and needs some wacking on his self as well!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I believe the best punishment for this man is to remove the child from his care. A grandparent or other family member perhaps? Is the girlfriend the mother? If so, time to rethink keeping this man. Baby must be in pain, poor thing. What a cruel thing to do.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why? What on earth could a one month old baby do to deserve this?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

As usual, the "eye for an eye" comments begin.

I assume most of us here have been raised in modern, civilized societies. Do you honestly think that is the best way to move forward? Do you honestly think that will solve the problem? If yes, I feel sorry for YOUR children, too.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Looking forward to naruhodo's further expanation on all this.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

He shouldn't have done that.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Naruhodo, I read your comment with great interest. I've always felt Japanese boys were cruel to animals. I've seen Japanese kids kill a small creature for no reason. Can you explain why you think (by your own admission) Japanese men would want to inflict pain on even a wild animal? Because I don't get it. Maybe we can get somewhere in understanding this.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Im a first time dog owner. Where i grew up dogs are not treated like a family member but a wild animal(not kept indoors ). So, instinctiveley i too didnt feel that connection. So i was sometimes a bit abusive to my dog. After a while, i started to realize tjat they have feelings. They smile, get scared, even pee when sooo scared (which has happened in my case). I feel horrible afterwads but do it again (mind u less frequently as i try really hard to fight my urges to punish) I truly believe most, not all, but most Japanese men lack that understanding and connection to their babies (cultural). It almost feels like an alien to them or a wild animal, and therefore treat their babies that way. I hontoni feel that they regret doing what they do and that is why they often take their babies to the hospital or call the ambulance afterwards. Too little, too late.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

I wouldn't mind giving this guy a "Goemon bath".

2 ( +2 / -0 )

And to think this loser is a security guard, someone you would trust in times of trouble!

Security Guard is a broad statement. He might work at night watching the parking lot. Either way, a dirt bag that picks on the defenseless and should pay the full price for his actions.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Hope this guy suffers for what he did to that baby. Devils amongst us, everywhere.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I'm sure this isn't the first time that fool did something to one of those kids and it wont be the last unless their Mother does something to protect them and herself.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Poor little mite.

I am not going to sound the silly trumpet that one more story indicates a major problem in Japan, but even a brief course on how to care for a baby should be a requirement to all in high school.

I am going to guess this was a reaction to the baby crying. Well that just means something is wrong and its not the baby's fault. Buy ear plugs if you have to and find the source of the problem. My baby often just needed a song.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Child abuse is becoming a MAJOR problem in Japan! This country and its leadership need to wake up and do something about it! Children are your future, and you are raising potentual basket cases with such treatment. Everyday I see children riding on the back of biclyes with no helmet, or standing in the front seat of a vehicle traveling 120kph down the expressway. And now its scalding, punching, kicking, beating, burning, choking, and killing defenseless children because the parents cannot handle the responsibility of raising them. Selfish, materialistic people, that are unable to put their selfish ways aside to care for a child they either brought into this world, or volunteered to assist, by entering a relationship with a person that has a child. It sickens me! "Babies making babies"

Punish these people!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

What a piece of smegma this guy is..... Just your typical loser that should propably hang by the end of his own rope. I wonder what he is waiting to do it, if life sucks so much that he has to torture a defenseless baby.... Honestly I hope he feels such guilt and regret..making his sleep miserable. Coward, subhuman, scum. About the 25 year old woman, she's gotta be insane to be with such a beast.

Speed recovery to the little baby, wherever he is now.

Yes yes yes agree with you all the way! This guy is mentally screwed to be doing something so terrible to a child. Not harsh at all Amai, these people need to be given the same medicine so they get a chance to wake up and realize their evil actions.

Why are all these nasty ones living in and around Osaka by the way ? I hear news of parents abusing their children mostly from this area.

Anyways this kind of act just makes me so sick and soo angry, you just want to get your hands on this type of guy and do the exact same thing to this mf with no sense of compassion. I wish this kind of looser was my next door neighbour, handle the freak right there and dish the medicine, i go to jail, i seriously don't care, child is more important!
