Police said Thursday they have arrested a 32-year-old man after his two young daughters were found dead in his car at Aqua World Aquarium in Oarai, Ibaraki Prefecture.

According to police, the man, who lives in Saitama Prefecture, called emergency services from his car at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and said that he had killed his daughters, Fuji TV reported. Police arrived at the scene to find the man bleeding from both wrists. The bodies of his two daughters, aged 5 and 1, were in the back seat.

Police said there were no signs of external injuries on the bodies and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The father has been hospitalized and police are unable to obtain any further information from him.

Parents, the number 1 cause of death for Japanese children.

Japanese, number one survior of "I wanted to kill myself, after I killed my family member(s)" group.

5 and 1, how could you do such a thing, watching the life drain out of a child like that at your hands?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Save the taxpayers some money and just let him bleed to death... why take him to hospital? He doesn't deserve medical treatment.

4 ( +6 / -3 )

5 and 1. Seriously how can people kill kids like that. You really must be made of stone to be able to do that. just sick.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So, how many kids have been killed by their parents this month? 8? 10? Seriously, there is a major problem in this society that nobody wants to admit to or address.

4 ( +5 / -2 )

@wontond

infanticide happens all over the world.

@papasmurf

i totally agree. in fact, they should have given him a bigger knife to slit his wrists.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Not again! Almost every day this autumn we read about attacks on children here by their own parents. So sad.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

infanticide happens all over the world.

But not as regularly or as callously as it does on this island asylum. Also, you should isolate infanticide from child abuse and parental abuse, all of which are prevalent within Japanese society. There was that nut job the other day threw boiling water into his son's face. Sorry, but it is fact that, in Japan you are more likely to die at the hands of a family member than that of a stranger.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

5 years old and 1 year old.... and then couldn't have the guts to kill himself? This guy needs his head punched a few hundred times.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

infanticide happens all over the world.

I agree, but in terms of wealthy, industrialized, literate countries, this seems to happen too often in Japan.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

it is fact that, in Japan you are more likely to die at the hands of a family member than that of a stranger.

That's true of the whole of the first world.

Thats 2 similar stories within a week, here in Japan. What is happening to our society. The world is going crazy.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So sick of this happening. Charge the parents like they charge strangers when it comes to murdering kids.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

I know JT chooses these stories because people love to comment on them (thus gaining a good amount of clicks) but... Doesn't Japan have an alarmingly high rate of "parents hurting/killing kids"? What's the problem here?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Readers, other countries are not relevant to this discussion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Patch him up, Lock him up and let him marinate on what he did for the rest of his life in prison. He seems to realize what he did was wrong and that is the best punishment for murderers like this.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

reckless - i have noticed that just one word in you entire comment will get the comment kicked as not relevant.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Is it something in hot summer air? Just so sad.....

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Rest in Peace to the poor little angels - far away from the evil man who took your lives.

If this is not reason enough to execute this monster - when others here are sentenced to death for killing adults - then Japan may as well abandon the notion of "justice". Who is looking after the children?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

More needs to be done to provide assistance to parents in order to understand their difficulties. We also need to encurage that parents come forward if they have any difficulties, culturally we need to shift our mindset from thinking its taboo or shameful to have issues in life. Humans of any country will have issues in life, we just need to have a wider support network to get over these issues together. So effort on this rather than nationalism please.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Disillusioned, "Sorry, but it is fact that, in Japan you are more likely to die at the hands of a family member than that of a stranger."

That's a fact Japan shares with much of the developed world. The issue here of course is what drove this man to kill his own kids and then try to do himself?

Aqua World Oarai , good memories, one great jumble of sun, wind from the sea, jumping dolphins, splashing water, sea lions, tropical fishes, penguins, souvenirs corn-dogs, happy laughing kids. To think that someone took their kids to experience all that, just to kill them in the parking lot.....

:,-( Eff it, I'm done for today.

JT commentators at their best again here. When a mother does it, latest by the third comment the calls start to where was the father?! But here we go, 22 comments and not a single one calling for the mother. Without updates we can only guess, and mine would be there is an ugly divorce story behind this.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

After few years Japan's average population age will be 50 years.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

News of the mother??

Something must have been going on to do this.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Seawold, good point! Where WAS the mom?

I hate this question because it makes it seem like everyone expects nuclear families when many are divorced.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

It took the poor kid in Otsu to commit suicide for the country to really re-think bullying. I wonder how many more kids have to be killed by their parent(s) for Japan to realize this is a serious issue.

5 and 1...Kawaisou :(

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The man said that he killed his children. They never said how they died. It could have been a complete accident, he blamed himself over the trauma of his children just dying.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

There are many, many problems simmering under the surface in Japan. What makes it curious is the propensity for the Japanese.... more than any other Society I know, to hide their problems. This is why, when unfortunate stories such as this do happen, it is seen to ba a desparate act. People around me, where I live, talk about their problems. Hardly a day goes by when I'm not trying to reassure and offer support to someone that has worries. It is a tough, cruel world.... and the Japanese know it quite will... maybe better than Westerners because the Japanese do not want to drag the "group" down when they feel they can no longer tread water.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@ japanisch - the local news said he strangled them then slit both his wrists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a monster. People are doing their best to care for their children, in normal cases. It's a Shane that these kids were not given a chance to grow up and be happy. How selfish could someone be to do this to a child. I'm so disgusted....

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I meant to say ITS A SHAME....

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I wonder if he was taking his kids out to Aqua World aquarium and just nipped off for a "quick" game of pachinko. Came back to the car in the unshaded parking lot (by that time, with an interior car temperature of about 50 degrees celsius) and, filled with remorse, tried to kill himself.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Minello 7, FYI..not only two this autumn, the killings started by the start of summer...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Better he give to the wife or Center for Child Care and other relatives, friend ask help from City hall, etc

1 ( +1 / -0 )

SO SO SAD we hear this kind of news every week...These kind of parents who do this to their own children need to suffer for the rest of their lives...

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The issue here of course is what drove this man to kill his own kids and then try to do himself?

Good question. One we seriously need answers to.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Horrific... :(

0 ( +0 / -0 )

speechless and sorry for his daughters.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nut !!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whoever thinks of killing their child can you go please go get help cuz ITS NOT NORMALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its amazing that in so many of these hideous crimes, the parent tries to commit suicide unsuccessfully... Why not just kill yourself and leave the kids alone??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The whole indoctrination must be changed, when you think, your life has no future, you have no money, your wife/girlfriend/mistress wants to brake up. go through these steps.

get your attributes for killing. get ready. Kill yourself! kill your family/innocents bystanders etcetera.

Note the order is very important!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He needs to be locked up at a mental facility for a long time. No information was given about the mother of the children. We hope to read more about such terrible crimes not for news value but for why these things happen so often in this society.

Just a guess, but I'd say it's because the children are considered "property" to be dealt with by the parents. It seems children in Japan are viewed as objects, not people with their own desires and dreams.
