Man arrested after body parts of father found in ceiling of home

Police in Soka, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 55-year-old man after body parts belonging to his father were found in the ceiling of their apartment.

According to police, Akira Ishitoya has admitted to the charge of abandoning the body of his father, who was in his 80s, when he died several years ago, Sankei Shimbun reported. The grisly discovery was made by police after welfare officials from the municipal office told them they had not heard from Ishitoya's father for a long time.

Ishitoya was quoted by police as saying he didn’t know what to do when his father died. However, in May of 2019, the apartment was put up for auction by the owner, so Ishitoya decided to hide the body parts in the ceiling. An appraisal of the apartment was made but the assessor did not inspect the ceiling.

he didn’t know what to do when his father died

You didn't know what to do so cut him up and put him in the ceiling BS! But you knew enough to hide the body and continue collecting his pension for years though huh.

HTF could anyone cut up a family member's body for any reason? That's one sick puppy

Lemme guess. He was collecting his dead father's pension.

This situation is extremely common in Japan and speaks more to the liveable wage issue than anything else. Many people hide the death of their parents in order to collect their retirement income. A couple cases per week or even daily isn't uncommon.

Usually skeletons are in the closet itching to come outside. Now they are hiding in the ceiling. Oh, what a feeling.

It was no doubt about collecting his father’s pension. But if it were me and I was so strapped for money, I’d rather suck up my pride and work at a Family Mart to make ends meet than live with a corpse. Morbid.

this is crazy and obscene to say the least.

What a dumb person. The least he could have done was to get some sulfuric acid and dissolve the body and and dilute the remains with tap water and and flush it down the toilet or throw it out when it is raining. What an amateur!!!!! Gosh

No doubt he was still collecting his father’s pension as well.

How do these people live with themselves every day? Talk about no conscience.

@garypen - I was going to say that but let me add this instead. Funerals in Japan are crazy expensive and holding one would cause a lot of yen which is I think people would rather keep their deceased ones hidden. It's still disrespectful to the dead though.

I can't even imagine being in the same home with a corpse as it rots. I've dealt with dead mice in the walls or a possum under the porch that were awful enough but a human corpse? In an apartment no less!

How do they pull that off so that the neighbors don't notice the smell? Vacuum storage bag? Aircon on full blast? Still...ugh it must be ghastly.
