Police in Soka, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 55-year-old man after body parts belonging to his father were found in the ceiling of their apartment.
According to police, Akira Ishitoya has admitted to the charge of abandoning the body of his father, who was in his 80s, when he died several years ago, Sankei Shimbun reported. The grisly discovery was made by police after welfare officials from the municipal office told them they had not heard from Ishitoya's father for a long time.
Ishitoya was quoted by police as saying he didn’t know what to do when his father died. However, in May of 2019, the apartment was put up for auction by the owner, so Ishitoya decided to hide the body parts in the ceiling. An appraisal of the apartment was made but the assessor did not inspect the ceiling.© Japan Today
