Police in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, have arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of causing bodily injury and obstructing police in the performance of their duty after he drove his car away with an officer hanging onto the vehicle.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 p.m. Saturday. Hokkaido Hoso reported that Tetsuya Hayashi, a part-time worker, was driving along when a police patrol car asked him to pull over.

Hayashi remained seated in the car as a 55-year-old police officer questioned him about a traffic law infringement. Hayashi then suddenly started to pull away. The police officer’s arm was caught in the car window as it rolled up. After being dragged along for about 10 meters, the officer got his arm free but fell to the ground and broke his left wrist.

Hayashi kept going but later turned himself in at a police station.

Why not charge the suspect with attempted murder as in the recent case?

Play silly games & win silly prizes….why put your arm into a car when the person is closing the window & driving off?!

There are billions of cameras in Japan. Maybe at 55 he didn’t understand the technology. More information about the infringement would be helpful. Drink driving?
