Man arrested after embracing female employee in hotel

A 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for indecent assault after allegedly embracing a female employee of the hotel he stayed at in December last year.

Police said Hirokazu Tada, an employee of a glasses frames company and resident of Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture, came to Tokyo on business on Dec 8 last year and checked in to a hotel in Yokohama City. Tada is accused of embracing a 24-year-old female employee when she showed him to his room.

Tada has admitted to embracing the woman, and was quoted as saying: "She was my type of woman." Tada also said he had been drinking before checking in.

“She was my type of woman.” Wasn't this the line used by the train groper yesterday?

“She was my type of woman.”

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere, So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

simple offense, cant imagine much investigation would be involved. wonder why it took 2 months to decide to arrest the guy.....

on a brighter note, seems there are still plenty of carnivores in japan ; )

In other words she was hot and he was cool.

"Well, if she was your type, we understand. It cannot be helped. Suspended sentence!"

Advice: "Close your eyes when you see the woman who is your type." LOL

You'd think these guys' "type of woman" would be the type that wouldn't call the cops after they touched them.

I know lots of people that hug...did he fondle her too??? Next thing you know, people will be arrested for looking at other people...

this is hilarious! you tgotta love japan sometimes! i mean who in their right mind would do this in the states? or western countries????

2 months for this? That's the most interesting part of this news.

he had been drinking before checking in.

Ahhh, demon rum again!!

"My Type of Woman" would make a good song title ( maybe it already exists)

pretty close, paulinusa.. Craig Morgan - My kind of woman

"My Type of Woman" : The official song of the J.C.A., Japan Chikan Association ( I HOPE THAT doesn't exist! )

are u kidding me? This has to be a joke or there is more to this story

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He's drunk !!!!! Probably said alot more worse stuff to her. He should have bought an escort if he wanted to do those things.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You tip bell-hops and waitresses, you don't grab them and pull them to you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So why is he accused of a hug and charged with the serious sounding "indecent assault" and the train groper was charged with a "nuisance" crime?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's really weird...

I can understand the level of discomfort... but hugging someone randomly is illegal?

Note: I really have to stop greeting people randomly. XP

What if this man had been a westerner where hugs are also used to show plutonic affection, wouldn't the arrests and legal commotion just be another show of Japanese instituions being behind the times? (insentive to western customs)

I thought that initially, but I think it would be more than a quick hug. Maybe he held her in an embrace. You don't say "She was my type of woman" after just hugging somebody.

“She was my type

Is that some kind of coded term here for I'm a perv, I can't help myself e around attractive women I don’t know. It seems to be the standard response from these losers.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if a survey of male hotel bellhops were to discover that many had been accosted by male customers. But that doesn't seem to ever make news.

I'm not condoning what the guy did, drunk or not, he had no right to hug her, especially in this country where physical signs of affection aren't exactly the norm. But what did the 24 year old woman think he wanted? And why did she go to his room in the first place?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

no wonder japan is so uptight about showing off physical affection it could get you arrested! stupidest thing i have ever read. japan grow up. my japanese friends who get drunk hug me allot and i don't freak out over it. it was just a hug they acted like he forced her into the room and raped her or something. give me a break

@Neojamal:

to show plutonic affection

hahahah thanks that made my day

0 ( +0 / -0 )

“She was my type

He was probably coerced to quote that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He gave her a hug and he got arrested? Maybe it was like a hug that didn't end and she got upset? Either way, he got to his room, he didn't hurt her, he just caused some trouble for her. He was drunk as well, at least he was in the right place - his hotel. No need to march up to the guy who would probably be passed out all night - just make sure he knows not to do it again or he won't be able to stay at that hotel (or chain) again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yea, right, like its a common Western custom to hug a total stranger in any circumstance much less a hotel clerk you just found out existed only 15 minutes ago. Get over the denial men or head back to your caves.

sorry "plutonic affection" was a phrase by some environmentalist who criticised Japanese purchase of spend plutonium rods from France back in the 90s. As humorous the pun is, it was stuck within my mind 'till this day.

Maybe he embraced her boobs? Could possibly be just an awkward translation..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Was this just a hug? If so, totally inappropriate, but the woman seems to be over-reacting to me if she has him charged with indecent assault! It depends on the definition of "embrace".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Midnightpromise is right. The story clearly says she showed him to his room. That's a bell-hop's job and doesn't entail physical contact of any kind. I guess some posters here think it would be alright to embrace an elevator girl or company receptionist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He forced her??? She did not report it right away? Why it took so long??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I suspect the plaintiff was wearing a "Free Hugs" T-shirt, and the guy just couldn't resist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

techall, I'm with you on this one. He was out of line. I'd like to ask for some accountability on the part of these drunk guys, please.

UsagitoSaru - "... stupidest thing i have ever read" Get with it. You getting hugs from your friends is completely different from what happened here.

SimpleLife, As for why it took so long, I am guessing that the police took their sweet time following up this accusation (as usual).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well he was drunk anhd perhaps he saw a filmstar in this woman. She was very lucky that he didn't rape and no one will new about it!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

paulinusa: Nice posts! I agree with the lack of inconsistency here. Groping is a 'nuisance' and a hug is 'indecent assault'? WTF?

This is ridiculous. I mean, sure his behavior was very inappropriate but indecent assault? Come on! The fact that it took over two months to arrest the guy suggests that the woman didn't complain about it right away. Maybe she thinks she can get something out of this?

'My type of woman'. Translation: She had legs and breasts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

“She was my type of woman.” - Yeah, the type with a pulse

0 ( +0 / -0 )

“She was my type of woman.” But he wasn't her type of man.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

are you saying there may be a " go " if he's her type of man ? hAHHAHAA, HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did we all know that he was drunk as soon as we read the title? How many beers had he got through? E.g. was she a six beer woman? Ten beers? I kinda doubt ichiban....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think everyone missed the point here. "My type of woman" probably means less about attractiveness and more about the fact that these young women wouldn't likely report them to the authorities.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What is the case scenario here: A woman doing her job, shows a drunken man to what is essentially a private bedroom. He suddenly decides she is succulent and grabs her. I think "embrace" here is a kind of euphemism, an attempt to keep political correctness (why? It's a news report), or a poor choice of word by the translator. "Embrace" is a word of common use in romantic novels like Harlequin.

Personally, I would have screamed for help. Perhaps she did and that is how he got caught and arrested. There are things not even so-called timid Japanese women will tolerate from impolite customers.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

“She was my type of woman.” The common Japanese male answer to why they did it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"She was my type of woman," that is usually any male's answer when they get in trouble for improper touching, or the classic, "she wanted me I saw it in her eyes," that's the booze talking! This embrace probably went farther than what is being reported.

For all of you guys who can't or won't understand:

Imagine that it was your girlfriend/wife/mother/sister getting "hugged" by this creep. How do you feel about it now?
