Police in Tokyo have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of property destruction and failing to pay a taxi fare last September.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Sept 3, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said Hidenori Naka, a restaurant employee, got into the taxi and when he arrived at his destination in Adachi Ward, he refused to pay the 2,200 yen fare.
Police said the driver told them Naka yelled at him and smashed the security board behind the driver’s seat before getting out of the taxi and running away.
The driver called 110 and said a drunk passenger was acting violently and uncontrollably inside the taxi. Police said Naka was identified after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage and the taxi’s drive recorder.
Police said Naka has denied the allegation and quoted him as saying he was drunk at the time and can’t remember the incident.
