Police in Tokyo have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of assault and robbery after he injured a woman in her 90s while stealing her handbag.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Jan 2 in Toshima Ward, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said the woman was walking home when Kazuma Kobayashi came up behind her and snatched her handbag containing about 100,000 yen in cash. When the woman tried to resist, Kobayashi kicked her to the ground. The woman suffered a broken arm.

Police said Kobayashi, who has no fixed occupation or address, was identified through street surveillance camera footage and was arrested in a pachinko parlor near JR Tachikawa Station on Jan 8.

Police said Kobayashi has admitted to the charge and quoted him as saying he needed money but that he doesn’t remember kicking the woman.

Very bad, brutal and coward criminal beast, not a man, as men don’t do such a thing. But of course also a word to the other side...you had 47 years time to give him a fixed occupation and an address. Don’t forget this part of the story.

How can you possibly remember assaulting someone when you’ve got pachinko on your mind?!

Literally, elder abuse. if the 47-year-old man had a job or two, he would not have committed such a crime. Hope the 90s woman will recover from the injury ASAP.

It is freezing cold and there is little work for the elderly- expect more to come...

Do you count 47 years old as "elderly"?

Umm, no. Maybe this guy’s had a hard time in life, but physically harming anyone is never acceptable. There is always another way.

This is a situation that will become daily as people continue to lose their employment and their minds. This idiot* snatched a 90+ year old handbag containing about 100,000 yen in cash so that he could go to a pachino parlor to enjoy his habit. On top of that when she tried to protect herself Kobayashi kicked her to the ground breaking her arm. He admitted to the charge saying he needed money but doesn’t remember kicking the woman. *Like I said this idiot has lost his mind or is pretending to not remember as if the lady just fell on the ground and gave him the money. The logic says the idiot is unemployed he was tracked down by surveillance camera footage to a pachinko parlor now where did you get the money from idiot. I bet he say he doesn't remember that too

This is disturbing. Glad the suspect was arrested. They should throw away the key. Hope the victim recovers successfully. I thought Japan is one of those countries like Taiwan and Mainland China where safety regarding street crime such as mugging is top notch and one should not have to worry about meandering around regardless of age, gender and/or size.?.?.?.?

A disgusting person.

"he needed money" so he's special I guess.

When and if he gets a prison cell he wont need money for a while, if he doesn't get a suspended sentence, or the prostatecutor buys his memory lapse.

C-O-W-A-R-D!!

Yup, there's a he-man for ya. But, fear not, Kobayashi, the so-called Japanese justice system will give him a medium slap on the wrist and make him promise not to do it again.

There; that should fix everything...

IF, he's addicted to pachinko, I wonder if he's done this before?

Tired of these losers. Get a damn job!
