Police in Osaka have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a female acquaintance.

According to police, Tsubasa Okada, who works at the Sunagawa High School for Special Needs Education, got into an argument with the 20-year-old woman, a part-time worker, at around 3 p.m. on Monday while they walking along a street in Naniwa Ward.

Okada grabbed the woman’s smartphone smashed it against the road and then kicked her once in the stomach, Sankei Shimbun quoted a witness as saying. The man who witnessed the fight called police who rushed to the scene.

Police said Okada has partially denied the charge, saying, "Although I did break her cell phone, I did not kick her in the stomach."

I can't believe what he says, as other media say, the woman was quoted as saying "he kicked me in the stomach."

People who look for victim-blaming reasons why someone attacked a woman.

People who try to minimise violence against women by saying You can be kicked but not hurt.

People who use Whataboutery to turn the attention away from the actual victims and onto imaginary ones with bs like "If a woman did such-and-such nobody would care..."

These people are why violence against women is still being ignored, excused, and under-reported.

And these people are part of the problem.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but either way this article clearly says a witness saw her get kicked in the stomach.

Doesn't sound like a fight...more like a viscous assault.

What’s the bet he wanted to get it on with her and she refused, so he bashed her? What a loser!

A real man doesn’t do such a thing. So it can only be a newly discovered wild animal.

Looks like he requires Special Needs Education.

@Maria

People who try to excuse away abusing a woman are doing it for one of two reasons. A.) they’ve abused women before or B.) they’d very much like to. Whatsboutism comes from the fact that the person making the claims identifies more strongly with the abuser than the victim. He smashed her phone and we have a witness who corroborated her story about the kick to the stomach. ‘How much it hurt’ isn’t relevant. Assault is assault regardless of how much it may or may not have hurt. And there isn’t really a way to gently kick someone in the stomach.

Doesn’t explain the smashed phones though. They probably already have got it on imo but she’s texting some other guy. Jealousy is a powerful emotion.

Big man. I bet he feels proud.

And other than Stone Cold, who kicks people in their stomach anyway?

This story reminded me to back-up my keitai.

There are plenty of security cameras in Naniwa Ward. He will change his story after the police show him the videos. Excuse Choice B ("I was drunk so I don't remember") probably isn't available since it was only 3pm. So he will be left with Excuse Choice C ("I always wanted to kick a woman in the stomach") or Excuse Choice D ("she laughed at me and I couldn't help it"). These seem to be the usual shallow and lame excuses we see from immature J-men perps.

My ex kicked me in the stomach once and also smashed my phone because I took a call from a platonic female friend. A witness called the police and I was the one being interrogated for 2 hours even though I was the victim. Double standards. Sucks to be a man.

This guy! What an attitude! Kicked her in the stomach as everyone saw and refusing to admit it! Something like Trump!

You can be kicked in but apparently no hurt...

Judt because you give a hit does not mean it was to hurt, especially if it was unique...

Need for context and hindsight.

It is not because someone call for police that the argument needs to go on national media.

Each time I was fighting with my sister (some time ago !), would I get the chance to go on TV ?

The man is now known as a woman agressor for his whole life ! Nothing shows he deserves that for the deed so far.

If a woman had kicked his parts once, no one would have reported that !
