Police in Hakodate, Hokkaido, have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of abandoning the body of his mother after he kept her corpse at their home for four months.
According to police, Hiromitsu Yamamoto, a part-time worker, said his mother, who was in her 70s, died at the beginning of last November, Sankei Shimbun reported. A welfare worker visited the home on Tuesday after not having had any contact with Yamamoto’s mother for some time, and found the body.
Police said there were no external signs on injury on the decaying corpse and that the woman appeared to have died of natural causes.

This kind of news comes up often.
Why are people living together with a corpse for weeks or months???
I really don't get that.

Apparently funeral in Japan is too expensive.
Another reason might be is that he wants to keep receiving the monthly pension of his mother.

Instead of getting the man help and counceling because of the traumatic situation he had to endure alone for 4 months, because just as Dman said, funerals in Japan are so expensive, they arrested him. I think that if he wasn't collecting and spending her pension, then no crimes were comitted. I just feel bad for him seeing his mother in that condition every day.

I always feel sorry for people who find these things. Impossible to eat lunch if you discover in the morning.
Realization
Let's establish a welfare organization to help those people:
1) Who have no ability to maintain funeral, the organization will do a minimum arrangement of funeral.
2) A shelter for unattended/helpless child and those whom parent think burden.
