Man arrested after slapping face of 8-year-old boy

Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting the 8-year-old son of a female acquaintance in her 40s.

Police said Keita Kimura, a resident of Kawasaki City, whose occupation is unknown, was charged with inflicting bodily harm on the third-grade boy, Sankei Shimbun reported. Police said Kimura has denied the charge.

According to the mother and boy, in late May, Kimura had been teaching the child how to play soccer and allegedly beat him because he arrived late to practice. Kimura slapped the boy’s face multiple times, leaving him with bruising around both eyes.

On June 2, the Chubu Children’s Consultation Center in Kawasaki City contacted police. The boy was placed in protective custody after the center suspected he had been physically abused.

Following an investigation into the matter, police also noticed that the boy's mother had a visible bruise on her face.

Another cowardly bully picking on the defenseless. Too many Japanese men are like this.

I really hope he gets what's coming to him

Big man. If someone his own size (I wager the 8 year old was roughly his own size), slapped him he’d probably go home crying to his mommy.

It's no excuse, but it's highly likely that this guy experienced similar abuse in a sports club when he was a child. He probably went through an education system that doled out hazing and other physical punishments, and as a result has grown up thinking these are suitable forms of discipline.

It's similar to the way many managers and superiors in business rule with an authoritarian fist - again resorting to the old school methods they experienced previously.

As I said, it's no excuse, but it's an explanation as to why these practices still happen.

Soccer, badminton, street dance etc were supposed to be healthy activities where kids could have a little bit of fun, but as many other activities in this country, it feels more like a military camp with overwhelming rules and pressure, you don't see kids smiling and goofing around, this is a place for discipline and group bonding, and not in the fun way.

He hits children and women. Let see what happens when a few real men find out what he does during his time behind bars.

This is Japan, not San Quentin. I have yet to hear any stories about Japanese prisoners going after child abusers.

Late for practice? That's it?

Dude, you gotta have patience.

Basically, Japanese men can't fight their bosses but the subordinates or younger ones.

Pathetic!

I'm not so sure prison society here has the same attitude and behavior towards that stuff as in the West. Even in the West, the worst is usually reserved for child molesters.

I always see these comments from people who think Japanese prisons are like American prisons, where the prisoners make the rules. The stuff that goes on in US prisons is a disgrace. Sure some horrible people get their comeuppance, but for every one of those there are 100 mild mannered prisoners suffering abuse. The whole genre of jokes about big cellmates named Bubba is fairly barbaric.

Again, where are the photos and home address of this buffoon? Put these losers on blast!

BIG MAN, abusing an 8 year old kid. I'm sure he feels real proud of his work too.

a few real men

These are all "real men", dear - the violent ones, the cheats, the manipulators, the liars, the rapists, the killers. They are just as real as the men who don't hit, cheat, abuse, rape, and kill.
