Police in Yamato, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Monday morning arrested a man who wounded three people, including two police officers, with a katana (Japanese sword) at a residence.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, an 81-year-old woman fled to her acquaintance's residence in Yamato City's Rinkan district to ask for help saying her son was trying to kill her, Fuji TV reported. The friend called 110.
When police officers arrived at the scene, Hajime Akutsu, the unemployed 54-year-old son of the woman, cut two officers in their forehead and shoulder with a katana. His mother also suffered wounds, but all three are in a stable condition, police said.
After that, Akutsu barricaded himself in the residence for five hours, but at around 2 a.m. on Monday, police broke in and arrested him. Police said Akutsu had been seeing a doctor off and on for the past 20 years but did not specify for what treatment.© Japan Today
