TV news update.

Clever the way he got the knife and flare into the hall. Carefully thought out, taking advantage of weaknesses in the system. Not stupid, well not at first...

He first took his bag to the side door and reported it lost-and-found. They carried it to the special desk inside. He lined up and went through the security check, and then walked over to the desk and claimed his bag. As he approached his idol at the head of the hand-shaking line, he placed the bag on the side table and set off the flare on the spot. People wrestled him to the floor.

Was at a free Idol "concert" in Nagoya on the weekend - the concert was certainly high energy I fail to see how anyone get an infatuation with them.

What a sicko creep! Sounds like Idol group girls literally have to dance with death. Hope more intensified baggage and body inspections will be carried out.

pacint

The obsession with teen idols is global and covers both sexes.

I don't think "global" is the right word.  I guess you haven't been

to any Muslim countries.

These events mostly draw creeps and weirdos. Feel sorry for these 'idols' sometimes.

Cost most likely, security is not that cheap.

Doubt it was a big event.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

What would have happened if he didn't ignite a flare and got up close with his knife? These events need to up their security. At the Summer music festivals here, they go through the entire security checks so not sure why they don't do it for these up and close idol events

Ever watch the psychological thriller anime movie Perfect Blue? It shows the life of pop idols and the more negative impacts of stardom, like stalkers, harassment and what not.

"If Alfred Hitchcock partnered with Walt Disney they'd make a picture like this."- was a quote from one reviewer.

The obsession with teen idols is global and covers both sexes.

Exampls: Many middle aged women in China 'adopt' a male teenage idol and spoil them as if they were their own children.

Korea etc also have non-dating rules for K-Pop.

@Jumin:

Agreed. However, this article is about a female idol group in Japan. This is why I limited my comments to female idol groups in Japan.

@Wolf:

Yes there are male idol bands. No, they do not feed into female entitlement because, of it exists, it is a relatively new situation. Historically, and you must know this since you can clearly read and write, men have utterly dominated women. Yes, there are some exception, but as a whole, men have owned society.

Incorrect representations of reality don't hold up when exposed to the truth.

I'm just glad they caught him. I wonder if he'll be charged with just the knife possession, or something more serious.

These assaults come from a depraved sense of male entitlement that sees women as objects to be had at any cost

Is that the pop psychology they teach in Feminism 101 at college these days? Men are no more likely to become obsessive than women. Of course you are "entitled" to your opinion but the ever evolving feminist ideology that blames men for all the worlds ills has very little relation to reality.

By nature men are always more likely to act out violently than women - that is simple biology. But rather than the "men are evil" take on this incident I see this as more a reflection of the nature of modern celebrity - particularly in Japan. Male idols are sometimes stalked by women but they are much less prone to violence than the men who obsess over the more numerous female idols. Social media has personalized celebrity. Instead of the group building up a common fan base, individual idols seek to gain their own followers. The more followers the performer gets the more successful she becomes. Modern celebrity with the daily interaction over the internet with fans and the frequent opportunity in Japan to actually meet the female performers provides the conditions and opportunities for bad things to happen.

The issue with the idol groups is it feeds into depraved male entitlement. It was born of depraved make entitlement. To criticizes it is not to victim blame, it is to be truthful and wanting to address the issue in a wholistic way.

There are both male and female idol groups. Do the male idol groups feed into female entitlement? Feminist representations of reality hold up quite poorly when exposed to simple logic.

Not sure what country you're from, but Japan is not the only country that portrays females this way.

I didn't say it was.

Have you seen sports illustrated?

No. Are the models banned from having boyfriends?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The psych screening for the fans, not the people who wanna dress however. ;)

Swift Justice, jimizo, et al:

Not sure what country you're from, but Japan is not the only country that portrays females this way. Have you seen sports illustrated? How many times do they show sporty men in skimpy Speedos (hint: its mostly women...in skimpy outfits, not Speedos). In either case, its the culture. Males and females should be able to dress however they wish without being attacked. If I wanted to wear a care bear suit in town, that is my right and I shouldn't have to be pummeled with rocks or stabbed by fans or people who think fur is an abomination unto Thor. A psychological screening may help, if it doesn't prove illegal.

Rule one in ninja book: Do NOT light a flare before attempting a stabbing.

Thankfully, in addition to being a freak, he's also an idiot.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I don't know why he wanted to kill one member. The other day, one member of NMB48 announced her marriage at general election for the pop idol group AKB48. At that time, many fans of hers got mad because they vote her at the general election. In the news, however, it ooccured not NMB48 but Keyakizaka46, so I don't know the reason why he wanted to do. From now on, inspection should be conducted every event like that to prevent from these attacks.

Didnt take rejection well......

No woman, whatever her trade, asks for or deserves having violence visited upon her.

I dunno, I'd certainly be ok with violence being visited upon a woman who's a terrorist, or a murderer, or gangster, or a number of other trades where she deserves it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Once again, the greasy management of these groups puts making a few extra bucks ahead of the safety of these kids.

With all the attacks that have happened and the sheer number of unchecked lunatics walking free in Japan, the meet and greets should be banned.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

@ Kabukideath - You're coming very close to blaming victims here.

What flipping victims? If anything I'm blaming the creeps that created it and the creeps that follow it. I guess they are victims of their own unhealthy sexual fascination with teenage girls. Are they the victims you are referring to?

1 ( +7 / -6 )

What an idiot, sounds like he wanted to get caught lighting a flare?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Lighting a smoky phosphorous flare in an enclosed space is really a very stupid thing to do for starters. This guy needs a reality check.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Igniting a flare? For what?

Probably a distraction, so he could attack one of the idols while everyone's attention was elsewhere.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Idol bands are manufactured to appeal to the weirdo demographic among others. Given that ploy, it is the responsibility of the manufacturers to ensure the security of the performers.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

No person deserves to have violence visited upon them lightly.

The issue with the idol groups is it feeds into depraved male entitlement. It was born of depraved make entitlement. To criticizes it is not to victim blame, it is to be truthful and wanting to address the issue in a wholistic way.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Igniting a flare? For what?

And not checking bags? Well, that's just not very smart.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

A creepy concept of large groups of teenage girls becoming so-called, 'idols' attracting creeps?

You're coming very close to blaming victims here.

These assaults come from a depraved sense of male entitlement that sees women as objects to be had at any cost, which has been around long before the idol system appeared. No woman, whatever her trade, asks for or deserves having violence visited upon her.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Well, what a surprise, NOT! A creepy concept of large groups of teenage girls becoming so-called, 'idols' attracting creeps? Glad they got this one before he was able to carry our his creepy fantasy.
